Not a Magnanimous Person

Majority of the entertainers and performers staying in Jin Qinwang Manor all believed this place was a good home. Jin Qinwang was frequently unable to be seen, and when he occasionally did appear, it was also just admiring the dance and listening to some songs, otherwise it was just listening to one or two plays. There was nothing else other than these. The rumored fooling around every night and whatnot, that was all a joke. Jin Qinwang rather did take away one or two people among them, afterwards hearing how they were pampered, but after a few days, there was no longer any news. And those that approached on their own with crooked thoughts, not a single one had a good ending. Gradually, they also understood, only by knowing their place and being well-behaved, doing what they should can they settle down and establish their life. Moreover, in the Jin Qinwang Manor, no one made things difficult for them. In outsiders eyes, Jin Qinwang was malicious and ruthless, indefinitely moody, but in their eyes, Jin Qinwang was a good master, not doing anything deliberate, yet still sheltering them.
That’s why, they really didn’t want to get kicked out.
The matters of the acting troupe, Jing Wan didn’t ask anymore. However, since they were divided by male and female, then there shouldn’t exist ‘disorder’. Jing Wan nodded, expressing that she understood, letting them temporarily withdraw to the side.
Afterwards, Jing Wan learned about the various situations, pondering for a moment, “How about this, a little later, have the account books for the last one year sent to the main courtyard, the public and hidden, both account books together.”
Once these words came out, the people below were just unable to stand still, having a small uproar, “Wangfei, this account book, there’s no such thing as the public and hidden.”
Jing Wan glanced over. That was the steward in charge of purchasing supplies for the kitchen. In the qinwang manor previously, it was just Li Hong Yuan, this one master. The things he ate all had specifically provided channels. On this matter, the one in charge of purchasing was unable to scrape in any ‘profits’, but don’t forget, there were still several hundred people in the qinwang manor. And ones like Mu An, who personally served closed by the master, their meals weren’t any worst than other families’ masters. This area really was a fatty grease flow[1].
If when speaking, the voice wasn’t that hoarse, perhaps the degree of credibility would be a bit higher.
“I was just planning on taking a glance, and don’t intend to do anything. If you all really don’t have a hidden account book in your hands, then forget it, just bring what you have.” Jing Wan softly spoke, then taking a sip of tea.
However, these stewards’ hearts were drumming instead. Although the words were said like this, even giving them the leeway to choose, but who knows whether she was telling the truth, or making a sarcastic remark? If it isn’t in accordance to her intentions, perhaps she will just used this opportunity to have them fired and have her own people take their place. Isn’t this wangfei a little too impressive? But, that hidden account book, how can one take it out?
Eunuch Mu’s gaze maliciously stared at these people. Each and every one all unable to tell good from bad. Whatever wangfei says is just what it is, to be stammering and stalling, as expected, it was too relaxing, all don’t know what their surname was, or even what their name was, really lacking discipline.
Jing Wan extended her hand, lightly knocking on the little square table beside her, lightly sweeping Eunuch Mu a glance. Eunuch Mu hurriedly retrained his expression, a look of ‘wangfei, this servant is very well-behaved, and very obedient’.
“Today although is the first time meeting, but some things still need to be said clearly all at once. I dislike troublesome matters. That’s why, the matters in the future, you all don’t need to report to me every day, just once every seven days. As the saying goes, ‘the people below exert labor, the people in the middle expend mental energy, and the people at top work the people. You all also don’t need to do everything yourself. You can just order it down. However, the unpleasant words will be said in front, if someone makes a mistake, the people above are treated as guilty by association. The person himself will receive one times the punishment, the level above will receive two times the punishment, and another level above will receive four times the punishment. All things shouldn’t exceed three, so if it happens more than three times, then the job will directly be seized. If one wants to return to that position again, then just go compete again with one’s own abilities. Of course, this is referring to positive competition. If one tries crafty plots and schemes, rather, it’s not impossible either, but you need to be prepared to immediately get lost from the manor once discovered…………….”
This time, everyone was quite frightened, “Wangfei, this, this doesn’t conform with the rules.”
Eunuch Mu wanted to stand out again, but immediately after, endured. What kind of person was wangfei, to still need for him to back her? Practically just a joke. Later, perhaps master will just skin him alive.
“What the rules were in the past, I don’t care. From today onward, the big and small matters of Jin Qinwang Manor, what I say will be the rules. Is there any objections?” Since a certain someone already had the manor handed over to her to manage, then naturally it’s just going to be according to her rules.
Since it was already said like this, what objections can they have. Even if they have objections, it was also just holding it in.
Jing Wan nodded, continuing, “In a few days, once I have the situation in the manor all grasped clearly, I will probably arrange for each steward two assistants. You all can also consider on your own, and as long as it’s one with the ability, all can do.”

What were assistants for? They can be helpers, and naturally also can be to impede oneself. To put it more bluntly, it was probably just to check and balance.
This time, they didn’t dare to say anything anymore. All say ‘the newly appointed official lights three torches’, just this fire burned too fiercely.
“One last thing, you all can only stay in your positions for a year. After a year, the person will be reselected, you all can choose yourself. As for whether it’s continuing to sit in your position, or getting kicked down, it will all depend on your own abilities.”
The blow this time made each and every one see stars before their eyes.
“Such…………..”
“Wan Wan, still not done yet?”
Li Hong Yuan’s arrival made everyone hurriedly bow to him, yet Li Hong Yuan simply didn’t pay them any attention.
Jing Wan turned her head and got up, “How come wangye came?”
Li Hong Yuan pulled over Jing Wan’s hand, “This prince didn’t see you return for a long time, so just came over for a look. Are things really troublesome? Just throw to them to handle, there’s no need to tend to everything personally. If even this bit of trivial matter all can’t be handled well, then just have the person replaced. Raising some more people in the manor isn’t a problem, but if they can’t share the burdens for their masters, then there’s just no need to exist.”
If Jing Wan made them worried and nervous, then Li Hong Yuan just directly made them shut up in fear.
“If these people aren’t convenient for you to use, then just directly switch with your dowry servants.”
“How is it that serious, and moreover, with just those few people of mine, even if each person was split in half, they still wouldn’t be enough. They are all the veterans of the manor, familiar with everything in the manor. If all switched out, won’t it be a mess? Besides, if there’s no mistakes, then there’s no fault, so how can one just randomly fire them. In wangye’s eyes, is this wife one to appoint people by favoritism, and a completely unreasonable person?” Jing Wan knew he wanted to back her, so naturally she was very cooperative.
Li Hong Yuan reached out and pinched her nose, “Really is a heartless one, having one’s good intentions all treated like nothing. Who all is this prince considering for?” Appearing as if blaming, but this tone and action was all exceptionally intimate.
This kind of Li Hong Yuan, they can be considered to have never seen before. It can be seen, how high wangfei’s place in his heart was.
“Didn’t wangye say to have the big and small matters in the manor all handed over to this wife?”
“Yes, yes, yes, all handed over to you. For all things, you have the final say.”
Jing Wan smiled, and then said to the people below, “Today’s matter will just end here, just have the account books sent to the main courtyard as quickly as possible. You all can scatter.” Everything that should be said has all been said. The smart ones should understand her meaning, so excessive words were unnecessary.
Li Hong Yuan directly dragged Jing Wan away. This while, there wasn’t anything important, so it was the perfect time to take her to stroll through the courtyards.
Although she still hasn’t attentively strolled through, Jing Wan could still roughly tell that the courtyards drawn out in the Jin Qinwang Manor were many, but the buildings were relatively fewer. It was all winding corridors, pavilions, and nature sceneries. And the yards also weren’t separated using clay walls, practically just a large-scale garden. The composition was pleasing to the eyes, the design elaborate. When free, there were plenty of places in this manor to whittle away the time.
“The manor is surprisingly built in a unique style, completely different from other manors.” There was admiration in the bottom of Jing Wan’s eyes.
“Like it?”
“En, very much like.”
Li Hong Yuan hooked his lips into a smile, carrying a bit of pride, “I designed it.”
“Really can’t tell that wangye even has this ability.” Jing Wan pretended to be surprised.
“Tsk, really fake.”
“That’s because I feel there’s nothing wangye is incapable of. That’s why no matter what you do, it all isn’t strange.”
“Is this little mouth smeared with honey today, this sweet? Let this prince have a taste.” Li Hong Yuan leaned in for a kiss.
“Hey…….” Jing Wan smilingly pushed him away, “Where’s the acting troupe yard in the manor?”
Li Hong Yuan glanced at Jing Wan. That bit of thought of hers simply wasn’t concealed at all, so Li Hong Yuan naturally saw clearly, “Just raised for fun, and in the future, for you to relieve your boredom with. If you want to keep, just keep them, if not, just send them away.”
“Ah Yuan, I’m not a magnanimous person.” Jing Wan said in seriousness.
[1] Grease and oil alludes to illegitimately obtained profits, which in this case is through embezzlement.

Oh shit, the “talk” is coming.
People says it’s hard going from extravagant to frugality. For the good people in the troupes, going from “only selling one’s skills, not selling oneself” to a “normal” live outside would be heartbreaking. I hope LHY has prepared better solution for them aside from simply throwing them out. After all, for better or worse, they’ve served their part as props for LHY’s facade for years.
Thanks for the chapter! 😘
