“Pregnant?”

Among everyone present, the most shocked and also the most happy was naturally still Ming Yunji. The changes on his face was even to a somewhat exaggerated degree. Even Xun Che laughed upon seeing.

Of course, the others were also very happy. At the same time, they were also a bit surprised———This was really too fast, just like racing with Wu Wang manor. A few days ago, Side Consort Tan had just announced her pregnancy during the palace banquet, and in a blink of an eye, Ming Jinrou, this Qin Wangfei, was also pregnant. She’d only been married for a little more than three months.

The only one that knew in advance was Ming Huayue. Previously, that time when Qi Pei had Li mama brought to the Xun manor, it was precisely because of hearing that Qin Wang Manor had invited an imperial physician, Ming Huayue thus went over to visit Ming Jinrou. Just, she didn’t expect that she would announce the matter now when it was only less than two months.

Ming Jinrou smiled, “Originally, I was also thinking of the old rule of announcing during the third month, but Little Imperial Physician Chi said that this little guy should be very sturdy, the fetus very stable, so just let you all know early.”

Everyone naturally was very happy. Side Consort Tan’s pregnancy that was announced previously, the period was actually even shorter. It was merely wanting to obtain Xuan Emperor and Wu Wang’s favor, thus immediately announcing. Actually, counting the time, when it really comes time to give birth, it’ll still be Ming Jinrou giving birth first.

Regardless whether it’s a boy or girl, they will certainly occupy either the eldest grandson or eldest granddaughter position.

“Then, how’s the situation in your manor now?” Ming Yunji thought for a moment, the happy expression on his face also slightly curbing. At the same time, he also glanced at Qin Wang who was next to Ming Jinrou, “Are the side consorts still well-behaved?”

Ming Jinrou was completely unconcerned, “Quite good. Previously, just separately gave those two side consorts a little garden each, allocating three thousand taels over to let them buy plants, flowers, birds, fish, and whatever they want. Whether it’s reciting poetry, admiring flowers, or playing with birds, as long as they don’t come bother us, anything is fine.”

“Just this?” Ming Yunji ultimately was still worried for his daughter. Moreover, towards Qin Wang Manor having this kind of arrangement, he was also somewhat concerned, “You and his Highness being loving and affectionate as newly-weds, it’s naturally good, but now, since you’re pregnant, this………..”

“Father-in-law, don’t worry.” Qin Wang slightly nodded, “Jinrou’s safety is the thing I care about the most. Currently, in the manor, the defenses have doubled again. All of Jinrou’s basic needs all have people carefully looking after. The servants, aside from cautiously inspecting, there’s also people surveilling and leading. The people from the side consorts’ side won’t cross over the west courtyard. We have already arranged three teams of guards, patrolling day and night. Absolutely no one will be able to go near any of Jinrou’s food and water in the slightest.”

Xun Che and Yu Lingxin couldn’t help but share a glance. The increasingly connected couple had the urge to laugh deeply pressed down inside. On the surface, they were both composed and collected, upright and proper, “His Highness’s considerations are thorough.”

Ming Yunji also momentarily blanked and could only nod along, “Since that’s the case, this subject can also rest assured.”

Ming Jinrou, however, let out a laugh, turning her face to look at Qin Wang first. Shortly after, while also carrying a bit of contempt, she looked towards her own father, “Actually, it’s only father you that insist on having tongfangs and concubines. Look at uncle-in-law, look at second cousin, which of them have someone else warming the bed when one’s wife is pregnant? Our family’s dumb……our family’s wangye is great.”

This time, even Xun Che and Yu Lingxin nearly had the tea sprayed out. They absolutely never expected that Ming Jinrou would actually nearly have the nickname ‘dumb goose’ called out in front of this many relatives. The couple practically squeezed each other’s hand at the same time before enduring.

And at this time, Ming Huayue, Xun Cong, and the others all couldn’t help but break out into laughter, but they were still mainly laughing at Ming Yunji who had indeed taken in concubines and tongfangs before.

Ming Yunji although because of Ming Jinrou’s words thoroughly relaxed, but it was ultimately said in front of the whole family, so his face was still somewhat angry, “Those…….those are all in the past. After your mother fell ill, all the unrelated people all got sent away.”

“Jinrou, you mustn’t lower your guard.” The expression on Ming Jincheng’s face similarly eased up a little. Just, he still wasn’t as relaxed as the others. Following-up at this time, he can be considered to have helped his own father out an embarrassing situation, “His Highness deeply cares for you, so inside the manor, perhaps there’s no internal worries, but the outside is still far from peaceful. You still need to pay attention to your body more. You can’t, because of believing in your practice of martial arts, just be careless and loosen up. When going out, you further need to be careful and attentive towards all things, especially given that there’s going to be many palace banquets during the new year, so further can’t be careless in the slightest.”

Seeing how her own dumb older brother seemingly just completely changed into a different person in a few days’ time, the emphasis in his words at this time even more experienced and wise than their father Ming Yunji, Ming Jinrou both wanted to slant her mouth and act coquettishly, while also feeling somewhat unbearable inside. In the end, she pursed her lips, also nodding, “I know.”

However, no matter what, Ming Jinrou’s pregnancy was all a happy matter for the Jin Duke Manor. Even though they didn’t announce to the outside, this family banquet and gathering on the second of the first month was still joyous, further letting everyone of the Ming family and Xun family in the following several days of new year’s celebration relax quite a bit.

But, by the seventh of the first month, as Madam Qii entered the capital, that is Cheng Yanling’s deceased husband’s mother, the former mother-in-law appearing in the capital, the discussions outside began heating up again.

Because the Qii family was the same as the Cheng family, both stationed and residing long-term in the Chen province for many generations, their children’s marriages, as well as entering officialdom and entering the army, it was all in the Chen province. Just, their military achievements and nobility were a bit inferior to the Zhenbei General Manor. Old General Qii even possesses a third class noble title as the Zhongxiang General. Just, as the extended honor gets passed down generation after generation, reducing in rank, at present, it was already just a third rank general of the Chen province.

The Qii family was also similar to the Cheng family. Aside from according to the Ministry of War’s usual practice or a special decree, they very rarely returned to the capital. In the capital city where every inch of land was worth an inch of gold, they also don’t have a permanent residence. But, this year’s first lunar month, Madam Qii actually returned to the capital city against the cold weather. On the surface, the saying was that Madam Qii, Tong-shi, has returned to visit her maiden family, but in reality, to say that it was unrelated to the matter of someone colluding with the enemy in the Chen province, as well as Cheng Yanling’s reputation, who would believe?

As such, towards the palace banquet for the titled madams on the ninth of the first month, the imperial clansmen and nobles, as well as the court officials, all can be said to be paying extremely close attention.

Towards this, Ming Huayue’s and Yu Lingxin’s attitude were naturally also particularly solemn. From the eighth of the first month, they’ve already started discussing and preparing. In fact, they were even more nervous than for the imperial selection banquet previously.

However, on the morning of the ninth, Cide Hall’s servant just rushed over to the first branch early in the morning to report, saying that Xun old madam suddenly began feeling ill, vomiting and having diarrhea since last night, and now, it appears increasingly dangerous and so on.

Ming Huayue, while shocked, immediately let someone go invite Little Imperial Physician Chi. Xun Che and Yu Lingxin naturally also rushed to Cide Hall for a look. Sure enough, they saw the previously hale and hearty, sharp gaze, and especially vigorous when causing trouble and scolding others Xun old madam with a sickly complexion like yellow wax, getting served by the servant girls and servant women on the couch. Her entire person was extremely dispirited. Second madam and Xun Xiang were practically on the verge of tears from worrying. Even Xun second master and Xun Ze were also burning with anxiety.

Yu Lingxin couldn’t help but feel somewhat surprised. Xun Che’s gaze however slightly flickered. After softly instructing Yu Lingxin a few words, he went out according to their original plan and schedule. The people of the second branch although appeared to be somewhat displeased, but Ming Huayue and Yu Lingxin were both still present, so it wasn’t good for them to say anything. Moreover, Imperial Physician Chi very quickly rushed over to examine, saying that Xun old madam indeed injured her digestive organs, having eaten something inappropriate, but it wasn’t particularly serious. Just, she was ultimately in her elderly years, so still need to carefully recuperate.

Ming Huayue and the people of the second branch practically all relaxed a breath, and then carefully asked about what to pay attention to for the medication and diet. Yu Lingxin stood in the back, coldly watching, yet felt increasingly suspicious inside. At the same time, she also carefully pondered over the points Xun Che hastily pointed out.

Xun old madam’s temper was indeed very big, but she also wasn’t the gluttonous type, especially when also having that legendary expert in medicinal cuisine and massage therapy Li mama by her side, who was specifically bestowed to Xun old madam to take care of her body. So, how could this kind of situation occur suddenly?

Especially when it also just so happened to be on the morning of the ninth. Even though Imperial Physician Chi said that taking medicine and properly resting will suffice, but after such a disturbance, reasonably speaking, Ming Huayue and Yu Lingxin can only submit an request of absence and not participate in today’s palace banquet, instead staying at home to attend to the old madam.

Following along this thought and thinking deeper, on one hand, the empress probably didn’t want to let them enter the palace at this time, especially the hard and unyielding Ming Huayue. And at the same time, there might also be another meaning. For instance, scaring Xun old madam, letting her think that she might get killed by the first branch and so on.

The Xun family second branch currently although knew their place, but everyone was probably all well aware that this kind of harmony was merely temporary. Once the old madam passes away and their family divides, their dealings in the future will only just be superficial.

But, even if knowing this, Ming Huayue and Yu Lingxin still can only stay in the marquis manor at this time.

Just, thinking for a moment, she turned and instructed Bai Guo, “Go pass a message to Qin Wangfei. Our old madam is sick, Little Imperial Physician Chi has already been invited, see if wangfei also needs to invite Little Imperial Physician Chi over for a look too, and whether or not her body has gotten a little better.”

Bai Guo immediately understood, leaving to carry out the order.

Ming Jinrou’s side naturally ‘heard the song and knew the meaning’. Regardless of what Empress Wen was planning, for her who was currently just two months pregnant, she still needed to be extra careful, thus just followed along the advice, asking Little Imperial Physician Chi to also take a trip to Qin Wang Manor after leaving the Wen’an Marquis Manor. Shortly after, she also passed on a memorandum expressing that her body was unwell, requesting to be absent, not participating in the palace banquet this time.

Towards this, Empress Wen didn’t express any dissatisfaction, instead very kindly bestowing medicinal ingredients to Qin Wang Manor and the Wen’an Marquis Manor. And the palace banquet that night seemingly also carried out very smoothly. The imperial consorts, among the harmonious atmosphere, together with the womenfolk of noble and high official families, Wu Wang Manor’s main consort and side consorts, all had quite a few amiable and intimate exchanges with one another.

Just, after the palace banquet ended, all kinds of rumors and gossip immediately just started widely spreading. On one hand, it was the sayings regarding Cheng Yanling becoming increasingly indecent and specific, and on the other hand, it was just about how important spreading the branches and scattering the leaves was to the imperial family. For Wu Wang’s Side Consort Tan to this quickly become pregnant, it was all due to the main consort Qi Pei’s virtuousness and such.

And the outcome brought about by these rumors and gossip was just Madam Qii frequently going around in the capital in the following few days. Although the court sessions will only recommence after the fifteenth of the first month, but regarding the Chen province’s matter, the clamor and voices that leaned towards convicting the Cheng family were becoming increasingly loud.

Under this kind of circumstance, even Xun Ying who didn’t really pay attention to the political affairs that much all started to worry more and more. Xun Che also went out early and returned late every day. Every time when returning home, he was all exhausted and weary. Aside from showing concern for Yu Lingxin’s body and pregnancy, he didn’t say anything else.

Looking at his expression, Yu Lingxin also didn’t ask anything. But, unknown as to why, she had a faint kind of certainty inside, feeling that Cheng Yanling can resolve Chen province’s matter. Regardless of how the rumors and gossips were like outside and what the situation appeared to be like, her intuition still didn’t change.

And on the night of the fourteenth, right when countless people were all thinking that once the court sessions reopen two days later, the Zhenbei General Manor afraid will soon be sentenced, the state of affairs of the court once again turning, the iron hooves of quick horses suddenly shattered through the flourishing dreams of the capital. The half-asleep and half-awake Xun Che and Yu Lingxin immediately heard Chai Guangyi’s urgent report outside Qingyu Pavilion’s door. Duanyi Xianzhu has returned to the capital!

  1. ….???? no, what does the side consort getting pregnant before the main consort have to do with virtuousness??? isn’t it just Wu Wang being a lustful pig??? tbqh if I was Qi Pei I think I’d have attacked Wu Wang with a stick by now.

    1. Because to the outside, it naturally will be said as Qi Pei as the main consort being the one giving the side consort permission to become pregnant. Therefore, Qi Pei is virtuous because she is considering for the imperial family and not her own interest.

    2. The virtue stuff makes more sense if you think from the pov of ministers.

Would you rather there be one-ish empress position that opens up every few decades (which your family might not even be eligible to compete for), OR would you rather have lots of opportunities to push women into the imperial harem?

Also, would you rather most successive emperors grow up knowing that he’d become emperor, OR would you rather he grow up competing with his brothers for the emperor’s/your favor.

The second scenarios are a better for YOU, so it behooves you to say a virtuous empress is one that tolerates the emperor having kids with other women, and to encourage the emperor to have kids with lots of women, and to demonize women the emperor favors for too long (unless they’re from your family.)
