No one expected that things would develop like this. Right now, where did they still have the mind to go ‘resent’ Li Hong Yuan. Currently, he was still bleeding. Having personally witnessed Jing Wan’s dagger stab into him, directly towards the heart, who knows exactly how serious his injury was. Just, because the color of his clothes was dark, one wasn’t able to make out too well.
But now, holding onto Jing Wan and not letting go, completely not caring about his own injury, if it continues like this, as time drag on, even if not a serious injury, one still might just die here.
That was a situation that no one wanted to see.
“Wangye, asking you to please treat your injury first.”
They urged one after another. However, in Li Hong Yuan’s eyes, there was just Jing Wan. Seemingly, his own life wasn’t even as important as letting Jing Wan forgive him.
Since unable to urge Li Hong Yuan, they could only turn to Jing Wan. At this time, they were all willing to believe that in this matter, there was a reason where there was no other choice, and towards this entire matter, the one that was the most clear, aside from Li Hong Yuan himself, was just Gong Jiu.
Gong Jiu knelt down on one knee, “Wangfei, just because the method to remove the love-locking gu is special, wangye had no choice but to do this. Please believe, wangye from beginning to end, his body and heart, all just have you. Regardless whether it’s he himself, or because of outside factors, he has never once betrayed you.”
Unknown as to whether Jing Wan really had his words listened in, or because of tasting Li Hong Yuan’s tears, she finally had a response. Her empty eyes once again had a focus, and the dagger in her hand dropped. Her body uncontrollably trembled lightly.
“Wan Wan.” The kisses already became gentle, landing again and again by her lips.
“Treat your injury first.” Jing Wan’s voice was somewhat hoarse, and somewhat shakey.
“Wan Wan is really this merciless, unwilling forgive me? Not even willing to hold me once? If it’s really like this, then might as well just let me die in your hands.”
Despite clearly knowing that half his words were his true feelings, and half calculated, trying to win her pity, she still was unable to do anything about him, compromising, and then complying with him. “You win. Quickly treat your injury, or do you really want to leave me alone in the world? Li Hong Yuan, let me tell you, without you, I similarly can live very well.”
Jing Wan tightly held him, listening to his heartbeat, but this time, she didn’t have any sense of security, just feeling alarmed and anxious, as if able to hear the flowing sound of bleeding.
Jing Wan hurriedly let go of him, immediately tearing apart his clothes, “Gong Jiu, quickly.”
Gong Jiu got up, swiftly using the needles to stop the bleeding for Li Hong Yuan. He didn’t have his medicine case by his side, but the best wound medicine, he nevertheless carried on him. From the looks of it, it truly was having long prepared.
Li Hong Yuan held Jing Wan’s hand the entire time, seemingly afraid that as soon as he let go, she will just disappear. Even if having his feelings sealed, this person, for him, was still more important than his own life.
Jing Wan blankly watched, yet didn’t look at him, her eyes landing on Gong Jiu’s movements. This was having long prepared to take a stab? That’s why, he would deliberately provoke her?

The moment she saw Li Hong Yuan, her entire person was like as if getting split apart, residing at two extremes. She was unusually calm, yet had also completely lost her rationality, and even can be said to have gone insane. She seemingly had thought too much, yet seemingly didn’t think of anything. Her ability to withstand was much stronger than expected, yet also much weaker.
Did she not believe him in her heart? No, she believed. Even if ‘seeing is believing’, she still believed him. What truly provoked her was probably the cold indifference in his eyes, completely not having her shadow. That’s why, that stab was that unhesitant, yet also why that stab would subconsciously shift somewhat. The reason that made her do it was never because of not trusting him.
If it was under normal circumstances, she probably wouldn’t have been able to do it. Sure enough, she’d gotten provoked too ruthlessly.
Stabbing him, how was it not necessarily using her own life to stab. If something really were to happen to him, she perhaps won’t go with him, because she still had a child, but even if alive, she would still be nothing more than a walking corpse.
However, she still wanted to say, when this man really wanted to deceive her, even she wasn’t able to see through. However, what Jing Wan didn’t know was that Li Hong Yuan didn’t have the intention to deceive her. What he borrowed was actually the love-locking gu’s power, letting that woman use the female gu to influence him. In reality, that was a very dangerous matter. If not careful, he perhaps really will have his heart changed.
No matter what Gong Jiu did on his body, Li Hong Yuan was just like not feeling anything, his gaze ultimately glued on Jing Wan. Seeing her expression, he heartached to the extreme, but even if having no other choice, the harm had indeed been brought about. Cutting open a hole, it will ultimately leave behind a scar. Even if completely unable to tell, it didn’t mean that it didn’t exist.
Li Hong Yuan reached out and lightly caressed the side of Jing Wan’s neck, “This place, does it hurt a lot?”
Jing Wan lightly frowned, a bit confused, “Doesn’t hurt, why would it hurt?
“Ruan Fang Fei has the mother gu of the substitute gu in her, while you have the child gu. The child suffers in place of the mother. Injuries caused by external forces on her, you will need to bear half the pain.” Li Hong Yuan explained, but he saw that Jing Wan seemingly really didn’t feel anything. Could it be that because the person died, the mother gu also died along with, thus not having any effect? But, if the mother gu dies, the child gu won’t die, but will weaken. In reality, Jing Wan stabbing him, he more or less had predicted, but ruthlessly killing the other person, it truly exceeded his expectations, because she has always been soft, treasuring human life. If he’d foreseen just a tiny bit in advance, then he would’ve all stopped her.
Jing Wan had forgotten about the substitute gu, so when killing the person, she completely didn’t realize. However, “Doesn’t hurt, from beginning to end, it has never once hurt before.” Jing Wan’s gaze landed on the corpse on the ground. This was the person she killed, yet there wasn’t the slightest discomfort psychologically, “The so called substitute gu, could it have been a lie? Just for the sake of impeding you, not daring to do anything to her?”
“Not impossible.” However, he still needed to confirm. Even though Li Hong Yuan was already prepared to do everything he can to preserve Jing Wan’s weakened body, but now, having another possibility, he naturally further hoped for Jing Wan to be safe and sound.
However, there was another point that caught Jing Wan’s attention, “You said, she’s Ruan Fang Fei?”
“That’s right.” Something that the people under him all didn’t know, for him to know, it wasn’t because of how much he paid attention to Ruan Fang Fei, but rather because of a coincidence. Below Ruan Fang Fei’s collarbone, there was a relatively special birthmark. In the past life, when she’d thrown herself at him, he’d seen. Because the shape was unique, it left behind a bit of an impression, and the Baiyi clan’s clothes all had very low collars, so he just happened to see. That bit of impression in the depths of Li Hong Yuan’s memories just got dragged out. Even though he didn’t just remember first thing, merely feeling it was familiar, he ultimately still found the answer. Speaking of which, Li Hong Yuan’s memory was indeed quite good, because that after all was a memory from ‘several decades ago’.
Jing Wan indifferently nodded. If it’s Ruan Fang Fei, then she just further had a clear conscience. She had long wanted to kill her. In the past, after coming to realize certain things, she even somewhat regretted that Ruan Fang Fei had already died. Who knew that her life was this sturdy, shedding behind a cicada shell and escaping from Zhong Qinwang Manor, ultimately unwilling to give up, ultimately bouncing around. Killing her now, it was a bit like swatting to death an annoying stink bug, and not like killing a person. This time, she won’t be able to bounce around anymore.
To have died this easily truly was just too cheap for her. However, she was practically just like a cockroach, so to thoroughly die like this was also good.
Li Hong Yuan’s wound was just simply treated. It was obvious, just this was still far from enough.
The party went back to the house Li Hong Yuan previously stayed in, leaving behind Ruan Fang Fei’s corpse in the same spot. Speaking of which, perhaps because of being overconfident, Ruan Fang Fei simply didn’t have anyone following by her side, to the extent that even now, those people still haven’t discovered that she was already dead. However, this was also a matter of sooner or latter. When time comes, it will be a vicious battle.
Gong Jiu further examined the specifics of Li Hong Yuan’s injury. When treating the wound, Jing Wan was still somewhat distracted.
“What’s wrong? Don’t worry, it’s fine.” Li Hong Yuan right now really didn’t know how to speak with Jing Wan, a bit at a loss, seemingly no matter what is said, it all seemed feeble and powerless, all like making excuses. He wanted to avoid, but some things, if avoided, it will just rot in the depths. That’s why, he could only ease the tension as much as possible first, yet it still appeared somewhat forced.
Jing Wan looked to him. Being worried, she didn’t deny, and in reality, she was worried to the point where her heart was all about to stop, but she didn’t regret, “If to come again, I similarly will stab you.”
“That’s why, Wan Wan’s heart, towards outsiders, it’s rather soft and gentle, yet only towards me, hard like a rock.” Li Hong Yuan pretended to be pitiful, yet his eyes contained a smile. It can be seen, towards this matter, he didn’t mind.
“En, if there’s still a next time, then I will still do it. When time comes, you might not be this lucky.” Jing Wan indifferently stated a fact.
“With your movements that big, it’s leaving me time to block, right? Sure enough, this heart still isn’t hard enough.”
“That’s why, based on your reaction speed, you’re completely able to block it, so why didn’t you?” Not even attempting to move.
“Since it’s from my wife, then naturally no matter what, all need to take it.” Li Hong Yuan said with a smile. Seeing Jing Wan purse her lips, he finally straightened his expression, “Today, even if you didn’t make a move, I would’ve still done it myself.”
“So, what was the method for removing the love-locking gu?”
“Under normal circumstances, once the female gu dies, the connection between that pair of love-locking gu will also sever, but Ruan Fang Fei has the substitute gu in her body, so unable to kill her, in fact, can’t even injure her, so could only think of another way. Reasonably speaking, the love-locking gu actually doesn’t have other ways of resolving, but there exist a special kind of situation. When the love-locking gu fails at locking together the two hosts, and the male gu’s host has another love, then resonating the heart, the feelings of extreme love, extreme passion, extreme hatred, as well as the blood of the heart, can remove the love-locking gu.” Li Hong Yuan stared at Jing Wan, uncertain whether or not she can accept this kind of explanation.
“That’s why, in essence, you wanted to let me hate you? Is it that in your eyes, however deep the love, when suffering betrayal, that will just be however deep the hatred? And you further know that I can’t tolerate a single speck of sand in my eyes, even if knowing it was caused by external factors, still won’t accept. But Ah Yuan, do you know, from start to finish, I never once hated you. My entire heart and soul have all gone to loving you, so unable to separate out an equal amount of heart to hate you. Moreover, I ultimately still believed in you. Even if not having clear thoughts, subconsciously, this bit still has never once changed. Now, you tell me, is it your method that succeeded, or because I killed Ruan Fang Fei, thus resolving the love-locking gu?” Jing Wan’s tranquil expression, at this time, finally had changes, “That stab wasn’t because your heart changed, but because you didn’t have me in your eyes. How can you not have me in your eyes?” Her voice gradually rose. At this time, it was practically roaring out, “Never mind just having your feelings sealed, even if you’d completely forgotten everything, you still can’t not have me in your eyes, you can’t——!!”
Seeing the hysterical Jing Wan, Li Hong Yuan very much heartached, but at the same time, also felt very happy, what to do?
T/N: Tbh when Jing Wan said that she stabbed him not because he had a change of heart, but because he didn’t have eyes for her, I just keep thinking, aren’t those two kinda the same thing?? Even if not, they’re still related to one another. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t nitpick the wording logic too much.

i guess the difference is if he had “a change of heart” means he had liking towards another woman, but not putting her in his eyes means that he completely threw her away first, then liked another woman?
Thanks for the chapter, Jen!
I will say the logic around this whole gu is pretty hand wavy but as long as there’s a happy ending…
This isn’t even the worst of it tbh, like gu I can accept to a certain degree since it’s already part of chinese myth and folklore, so it has an actual history. The deus ex machina bead that shows up in later chaps, I really squint so hard at it.
I’ve notice that “not have him in your eyes” doesn’t mean the same thing in these translated novels that it means in English.
In context, it’s used where in English you’d say “you’re looking down on him” or “looking down on his ability”. I think Jing Wan is using it that way. He loves her (has her in his heart) but doesn’t believe in her (not in his eyes).
No it’s 眼里没有我, which means in sense of someone you care about, so if you don’t have that person in your eyes, it means you don’t care about them. Trust me, I’m fluent in chinese.
Thank you for the clarification. I was going entirely off this context and the context of seeing the same (translated) phrase in other places.
Idiom doesn’t translate well, and I tend to take idioms in a translated novel with a grain of salt, and use context to see if it’s right.
This is NOT a complaint! I am not able to speak, read, or write even a second language. Translations are like a mysterious magic to me.
Example of using context: “X days later” means “x days after what we were just talking about”. So “The contest is in 4 days. We will meet 3 days later” means “The contest is 4 days from now. We will meet 7 days from now to plan for it”. That’s obviously wrong, so I adjust the words in my head.
Logically and contextually, what I said made sense though. After all, why would LHY be elated over JW being mad at him for “looking down on her”, he makes fun of her stupid moments all the time. Only JW being hysterical over him not caring about her anymore would he realize how much she loves him, thus making him happy.
Maybe it just means he loves her but doesn’t trust that she loves him as much as he does. Or that he doesn’t trust her to do what was necessary…? Oh dear. Brain obliterated. 🤯
Thanks for the chapter, Jen.
RUAN FANG FEI… jing wan is right. she really IS like a cockaroach. this is insane lmao ty as always for the translations!
No Jen I agree with you there it does sound like the exact same thing. Maybe a bit more poetic, but having someone in your heart and not in your eyes doesn’t make sense to me. Like it’s either both or none
