Sun Yi Jia also realized in hindsight the inappropriateness of her action, but she still couldn’t help worrying inside, “Little sister Wan, aside from these, is there, that, that, does there hurt?” She leaned in, lowering her voice and stuttering as she asked.
Jing Wan was speechless, but at this time, she could only pretend to be stupid with a look of confusion, “Hurt where? Nowhere hurts.”
Sun Yi Jia sighed in relief, “Nothing, nothing at all.” Yet muttered to herself: ‘At least that bastard still has a bit of morality.’
Although this body’s physical age was younger than Sun Yi Jia’s, but in reality, Jing Wan has always had her viewed as a younger sister. However, this elder sister-in-law of hers was also worth it. Once she acknowledges you, she will also be completely devoted towards you. At the time, when she herself got bestowed to Jin Qinwang in marriage, she didn’t say a single word, but when it came to her(JW), she nevertheless was continuously nervous. Even if she in reality can’t do anything, these feelings, one still needs to bear. “Big sister Jia, don’t blindly worry, it’s really nothing.”
Sun Yi Jia instantly became a frost covered eggplant[1], wilting. Ever since she married Jing Bo, little sister Wan never called her big sister Jia again. This really was trying to pacify her. She was somewhat annoyed, “I perhaps shouldn’t have said these to you. By saying too much, isn’t that just letting you worry about the future? If you don’t know, then prior to marrying, you can still live your days carefreely and without worries. But now………….”
“What one should know, and what one shouldn’t know, one sooner or later will all know. If not elder sister-in-law telling me, then it’s just someone else. In reality, learning from you is better than learning from someone else. After all, if one doesn’t have a bit of preparation inside, then at certain times, suddenly getting ridiculed by someone, one perhaps won’t even know what happened. That’s why, I should actually be thankful towards big sister Jia.”
Sun Yi Jia rolled her eyes at her, “You’re just trying your best to console me.”
Jing Wan pulled her to sit down, “Elder sister-in-law, I feel your mood these days seems to be a bit unstable, how about calling the manor doctor over for a look.”
“Really? I don’t feel that way, it’s probably just you thinking I’m annoying.”
Jing Wan was also helpless, thus didn’t mention it again. Rather, it was Sun Yi Jia’s wet nurse, whose complexion was somewhat peculiar. The two of them didn’t see, but Gong mama saw very clearly. “Third young madam, this servant knows a bit of medical skills. Some commonly seen pulse conditions, this servant is still able to grasp accurately. How about letting this servant have a look for you, just treat it as taking the pulse for a peace of mind?”
“Alright, with an outcome, it’ll save this girl from nagging me.” That said, she lifted her hand, exposing her wrist.
As soon as Gong mama placed her fingers on her pulse, she immediately felt something amiss, but for this kind of thing, one absolutely must not be careless. A moment later, she let her switch hands. This solemn attitude of hers made the onlookers all tense up.
“Elder sister Gong, is there something wrong? Young madam’s appetite these days haven’t been well, always feeling nauseous. This one is worried that she ate something bad, but young madam is unwilling to invite the manor doctor for a look.” Sun Yi Jia’s wet nurse, this while, was unable to bear it anymore.
Originally, it hasn’t been long since she married into the Luo family, so to cause a disturbance by going to invite the doctor, she worried that it’ll make others feel she was troublesome.
“Elder sister-in-law, this isn’t right, this kind of thing, how can you hide it?”
“It’s just my appetite not being all that well, that’s all, just a trivial matter. Perhaps it’s because the weather’s warming up. I have a bit of summer pains[2] to begin with.”
“Third young madam has thought wrong this time, this isn’t a trivial matter, but an enormous matter.” Seeing each and every one all tensing up, especially her own miss, who hurriedly asked what’s wrong, Gong mama didn’t beat around the bush anymore, “Third young madam didn’t eat something bad, but rather is pregnant, already a little more than a month, presumably having gotten pregnant around those few days after the wedding. This is a happy matter.”

“That’s impossible!” Sun Yi Jia, after blanking for a moment, immediately denied, “My period came last time.”
Gong mama let out a ‘no wonder’ expression. Even if third young madam was young and didn’t know, her wet nurse by her side should at least be aware. Turns out the problem came from here, “This kind of situation also exists. There’s a portion of people, who in the first month of getting pregnant, would have this kind of situation appearing. Just compared to normal, the blood would be much lesser, and the time also not that long.”
“Elder sister Gong, hearing you say this, this matter afraid can’t be too far off.” Sun Yi Jia’s wet nurse appeared very excited, yet also carried a bit of frustration, “This kind of situation, indeed heard of before, just how come I didn’t think of it. Good elder sister, young madam’s situation, is there anything out of place?”
“Judging from third young madam’s pulse, there aren’t any problems, however, it’s best to invite the manor doctor over for a look.”
“Right, right, you’re right, I’ll go invite the manor doctor right away.”
Sun Yi Jia placed her hand on her lower abdomen, still finding it unbelievable, but seeing her wet nurse excitedly about to leave, she hurriedly reached out to stop her, “Wet nurse………..”
Because of her pull, Sun Yi Jia’s body suddenly moved forward a little, greatly scaring her, “My good miss, settle down a little.”
Because she was too nervous, Sun Yi Jia instead wasn’t that nervous. “Wet nurse don’t rush, this matter should still be reported to mother (Zhang-shi), and let her make the decision. If you excitedly go invite the person at this time, wouldn’t this matter become known by everyone in the entire manor.”
Presently, for the people here, that was all waiting for the fetus to stabilize before reporting the good news. Prior to that, aside from a few people in the know, it was just having the matter concealed and hidden away.
“Just directly look for grandmother, my mother is one that doesn’t bother with anything, if you really tell her first thing, without a process to let her warm up her senses, she probably won’t be able to keep it a secret. She won’t bicker over such things, and will instead rejoice.” Jing Wan said, “Qing Zhu, why don’t you take a trip to grandmother’s place, and also have the manor doctor invited to my place. Just say I feel a bit unwell, asking to come take my pulse.”
“Yes, this servant will go right away.”
Sun Yi Jia’s wet nurse repeatedly thanked Jing Wan.
“This is my dear sister-in-law, and the one in her stomach is my niece or nephew, no need to thank.” Jing Wan smilingly looked to Sun Yi Jia, teasing, “Getting pregnant during those few days after the wedding, are you the one that’s impressive, or is it my brother that’s impressive?”
“This mouth of yours really is infuriating.” Sun Yi Jia was angry from embarrassment.
“My bad, my bad, right now you are two in one, so take it easy, take it easy.” Jing Wan grabbed her hand, “However, elder sister-in-law, you feeling unwell, the people by your side listen to you and won’t invite a doctor, but what about my brother? He also just listen to you?”
“Don’t blame your brother, he’s been somewhat busy lately, so I didn’t let him discover.”
“Busy with what, what’s there to be busy with? If he can’t finish, just postpone it. How can he neglect even his wife?” Jing Wan was discontent.
Sun Yi Jia didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Whose fault was this exactly? Wasn’t it because she(JW) was busy nonstop all day long. They just wanted to let her be a little less busy, but great, she instead ‘bit back’. However, this wasn’t that big of a deal either. How come in little sister Wan’s eyes, her third brother was just like having committed some great sin that even the heavens cannot tolerate, was it this exaggerated?
“Qing Mei, quickly go invite third young master over. Let him have those things all put aside. Right now, his wife and child is the most important.”
Seeing Jing Wan’s unyielding stance, Sun Yi Jia was also unable to say anything to stop her.
Because the couple’s little courtyard was just next door, Luo Jing Bo actually came rather quickly, clearly appearing to have directly ran over.
Luo Jing Bo’s appearance, in those eyes, there was just Sun Yi Jia. Everything else, he seemingly all wasn’t able to see. He carefully asked Sun Yi Jia if it was true, entirely a foolish look. However, becoming a soon-to-be father, this kind of thing, no one would laugh at him.
Luo Old Madam also came very quickly. However, in the end, she was still someone that has experienced through all the storms. Although happy, she definitely wouldn’t go as far as to lose her bearing. After pardoning Sun Yi Jia of her etiquette, she directly pulled over Jing Wan’s hands out of habit, looking her over, and staring until Jing Wan couldn’t help but blush somewhat, before finally retracting her line of sight. Sitting down, she finally looked towards Sun Yi Jia, “Qing Zhu already explained to me clearly. Yi Jia, since you have married into the Luo family, then there’s no need to be that distant. One’s own body is the most important. Regardless whether it’s a big problem or a small problem, should all invite the doctor first thing. This time was also Wan Wan suddenly suggesting, else if according to you, with you and Jing Bo currently in a honeymoon period, if by chance you two were to accidentally harm the child, how can that be good? Also you, Jing Bo, no matter what, you still shouldn’t neglect your own wife.”
The couple were very much embarrassed by Luo Old Madam’s words, blushing uncontrollably, repeatedly promising that there won’t be a next time.
Fortunately, the manor doctor rushed over at this time, letting them finally relax a breath.
The manor doctor took Sun Yi Jia’s pulse. Gong mama’s diagnosis was correct, the mother and child equally well.
Luo Old Madam also couldn’t help but let out a happy look. This was the Luo family’s fourth generation. Jing De’s wife’s previously kept having problems, so seeing this one appear well, naturally was worth being happy over. Moreover, having one this quickly, this was a good omen.
But they weren’t happy for very long before someone came charging in, shouting, “Old madam, s-something major happened………….”
Luo Old Madam’s face sunk, “Being this flustered, how is this proper? This is a young lady’s courtyard, as a male, you even dare to casually intrude?”
That servant boy was deathly pale, “Old madam please forgive me, old madam please forgive me.”
“What’s the matter?”
“Third master, third master fell from horseback, broke his legs from falling, and also, also got stomped by the horse at the waist.”
[1] Frost Covered Eggplant – Means listless and dispirited, just picture a wrinkly eggplant.
[2] 苦夏 – Literally translates to ‘bitter/suffer summer’; this is a medical term in chinese, referring to the condition in which after entering summer, due to the rising temperature, one has a decline in appetite, having no desire to eat, and food intake is also distinctively lesser than in other seasons, in addition to a low fever, body lacking in strength, weariness, and lacking in spirit.
T/N: Before anyone asks here’s the LIST OF CHARACTERS. The masters shouldn’t be too hard to remember because their branch is numbered after them. So Third Branch = third master’s family.

I don’t know if the Luo would even bother much with the 3rd Branch after what have done by the 3rd Branch.
Oh…I don’t know if the incident was created by someone.
At first I was like… who the hell is 3rd master again… then there was the chart. BOOKMARKED!
There is a very rich variety of vegetable similes in this story. I think “red like a tomato” is the only one I’d ever heard before so it’s interesting to see more vegetable based expressions of speech. Hrmm, a frost covered eggplant… “just picture a wrinkly eggplant” … so.. basically Jen’s scallions (that would not at all have made beautiful fingers. Beautiful old lady fingers maybe?).
By the way, when you said you recycled them, do you mean you planted them? Or turned them into compost? I’m curious for suggestions on what to do when I let vegetables in my fridge go past their prime.
No i meant i ate them lmaooo 😅😂
Vegetables that have been sitting in fridge too long and can’t be eaten raw anymore can still be stir fried. Scallion+garlic+egg on top of warm bowl of rice = bliss 😁
omg too cute – “big sister Jia”
