Additionally, there was one more thing, “Grandmother, Jin Qinwang’s wealth, really won’t meet with his Majesty’s suspicions? Those things clearly were all from all over the place, and without a bit of manpower, it should be impossible to get one’s hands on them, right?”

“Since he dares to taken them out, then naturally isn’t afraid of anything. Sometimes when handling things, one may not necessarily need to utilize one’s own people. That’s why, Wan Wan, you don’t need to worry. These things, he will take care of himself.”

“Grandmother, towards Jin Qinwang, you seem to be……….exceptionally different?” Not just grandmother, but grandfather too.

“He will soon become Wan Wan’s husband.”

Jing Wan didn’t believe that it would be this reason too much. Grandmother was keeping something from her, but Jing Wan didn’t question to the end either. Some things, she will eventually understand one day.

Another two days passed, the formal invitation period. Because the day of the wedding was already set, as such, the invitation period was just going through the motions.

Seven days before the formal day, Jing Wan’s wedding clothes were sent over. From head to toe, from the inside to the outside, whole and complete.

Because it was marrying into the imperial family, the style of the clothes and the various embroidery all had special requirements. As such, it actually saved Jing Wan a lot of trouble.

Just as it got closer and closer to the wedding date, Jing Wan’s dowry furniture still haven’t to arrive.

Jing Wan’s furniture, Luo Old Madam had already prepared several years ago back in Qi’an Fu. This kind of large-sized item, actually not that many high officials and noble personages would purchase in the capital. Leaving aside the fact that there aren’t many good wood near the capital city, even if the wood merchant transport them over, the price would still be very expensive. Those with a family clan, having family history and accumulated wealth, which family didn’t make furniture in their own territory.

Even Luo Old Madam was a bit worried, repeatedly sending people to go several hundred li out to meet them, just fearing it’ll be held up.

(T/N: 1 li = approx. 500m)

Fortunately, two days prior to the wedding, it finally arrived. Everyone greatly sighed in relief. One has to know, the next day, they will have to send the dowry. If the most important portion didn’t arrive, then that would really be making a fool of oneself.

Seeing these big and small furnitures’ material and workmanship, one just knew, when Luo Old Madam had someone make these furnitures for Jing Wan, she truly put in her hard-earned capital. Compared to Sun Yi Jia’s, they all weren’t inferior in any aspect.

One has to know, Sun Yi Jia was born in the Ding Duke Manor. The Ding Duke Manor can be considered Qi Yuan’s number one meritorious noble family, and the Sun clan further had over a thousand years of family history, something the Luo family was far inferior to. It can be seen, the mental and physical effort Luo Old Madam spent on Jing Wan’s dowry.

Prior to coming to the capital, Jing Wan didn’t know about these, so this while, seeing them, she naturally was both surprised and touched.

Of Sun Yi Jia furnitures, aside from the babu bed, only two entire sets of large furniture were made from red sandalwood and golden thread cedar. The rest relatively small ones actually used other wood. However, with Jing Wan’s, only these two kinds of wood were used.

The Luo family’s daughter-in-laws even suspected whether or not Luo Old Madam had the good wood accumulated over these last few years all used up.

However, as the saying goes, ‘eating other’s things, the mouth was weak; taking other’s things, the hands were weak’. The good things they’ve obtained from Jing Wan weren’t few, and in another two days, she’ll be marrying into the qinwang manor, her status further honorable. And it’s not like Jing Wan was a white-eyed wolf. In the future, she will definitely still help the maiden family, so what did some wood count as? As such, that sour feeling also dispersed.

What was transported over naturally wasn’t just these furnitures, but also some good things that the Luo family has accumulated in these last two to three hundred years.

At the same time, the dowry the Grand Elder Princess prepared for Jing Wan also arrived, having several carriages worth of good things. Perhaps can’t compare to Li Hong Yuan’s ‘betrothal gift’, but compared to the other high official and noble families, it was still top-notch.

The people delivering the things from Qi’an Fu this time were all the Luo family’s clansmen. Although for the most part all considered side branches, towards Luo Old Madam having this many good things all given to one girl, they more or less would all be discontent inside. But after learning that she was going to marry a wangye and will be a wangfei, that bit of discontent also disappeared. No matter what can’t disgrace the Luo family’s name, no?

Then, looking at this procession again, even the people that were a generation higher than Luo Pei Shan all didn’t say anything. ————–The Luo family producing a wangfei, this naturally was something that very much raised the face. The people of the Luo clan all wanted to see the excitement and grow some experience and knowledge, so quite a few people came. Precisely because of this, getting dragged down by having the entire family come, too many young and old, they thus slowed down the speed.

It was also fortunate that these people, majority of them, all have directly related relatives in the capital, else the Luo family definitely won’t be able to arrange for this many people.

And in the afternoon, Jing Wan’s maternal family also soundlessly arrived. Fortunately not that many came. There was her grandparents, two maternal uncles, as well as two older male cousins. Her maternal aunt-in-law, as well as her other maternal cousins, all didn’t come. It was clear, the two elders perhaps specifically came for Jing Wan’s wedding, and her maternal uncles and older cousins more or less had the intention of ‘seeking a path’.

With the Zhang family’s arrival, Jing Wan only realized after meeting that it was Luo Rong Yan that had arranged for someone to receive. At this time, each and every one were all busy to the point of scrambling about, and each branch’s relatives also could only be taken care of by each respective branch. In any case, the Luo family’s guest house also took care of quite a few, and in case of the unexpected, even if wanting to meet the in-law family, all can only postpone for now. Towards them, Jing Wan also wasn’t very familiar. It couldn’t be helped, they also weren’t from Qi’an Fu. Although they were in the same region as Qi’an Fu, unfortunately transportation wasn’t convenient, so similarly came in contact very rarely.

Without an emotional foundation, even if as blood relatives, Jing Wan was still unable to do something like ‘tearfully weep on one another’s shoulder’, only properly and appropriately paid her respect. Although it was a bit awkward, Jing Wan’s eldest maternal uncle was actually a smooth and eloquent person. As such, the atmosphere was rather harmonious. However, not long after, Jing Wan’s maternal aunt’s entire family also came to visit.

Fortunately, Luo Old Madam had sent someone to look for her, so Jing Wan thus found an excuse to leave.

The few people of the Zhang family were also sharp, clearly sensing that the Gu family and the Luo family second branch weren’t that harmonious. Although they didn’t expose this matter on the surface, later they’ll inevitably need to ask a few words.

Because many things were added, everything all needed to be added onto the dowry list, and what should be put in trunks still needed to be put in trunks. In reality, it was already simplified again and again, for instance, the pearls, gemstones, and such items that Li Hong Yuan sent over, as well as the complete sets of head ornaments, still counting by entire chests, these several loads of things were all combined into one load. And practically every chest was all completely packed, unable to insert even a single finger. Even so, it was still far more than one hundred and twenty-eight loads. In the end, recalling Jin Qinwang’s conduct, might as well just ‘smash an already broken jar’, adding on twenty more loads, exceeding Kang Qinwang’s limit at the time when taking a wife. In any case, it’s not like they were on Kang Qinwang’s side, so no need to give him face. And if his Majesty denounces, just let Jin Qinwang stand in front.

As for the properties and land deeds in the dowry, the Luo family didn’t have any estates in the capital. However, that year when Luo Old Madam married Luo Pei Shan, she actually had a several dozen hectares estate, and thus was given to Jing Wan. Additionally, it was just the ones in Qi’an Fu, adding several properties to the dowry. Although the district wasn’t very good, it was still something that couldn’t be helped.

At night, the Zhang family finally met with the two elders of the Luo family. The two of them obviously already learned of the good thing their eldest daughter did, and also their younger daughter…………This daughter prior to marrying, they seemingly didn’t feel there was anything bad about her personality, but looking at it now, practically made them have no face to face the in-laws.

Although the times they’ve interacted were short, Jing Wan still noticed that her maternal grandparents and maternal uncles were all ‘normal people’. Then, why did the daughters these two raised just each more abnormal than the last?

The next morning, more and more people came to add dowry for Jing Wan.

T/N: Lately my fingers have been cramping……….I did not know that was possible. This chapter also has the only inconsistency in the entire novel I found. It’s pretty obscure, but also a very obvious one once you notice. I’m curious if anyone can guess it, I’ll give the answer at the end of next chapter. I even went back to double check to make sure it wasn’t my own translation mistake.

  1. I can’t guess out of excitement that it’ll be the wedding soon and the anxiety that there’d be an incident, or anyone looking for a problem…

What just made me wonder was that Luo Old Madam had no property in the capital…

    1. Oh just the Luo family doesn’t have property in the capital because their ancestral home is in Qi’an Fu. Luo Old Madam has that one property in the capital that’s originally from her maiden family.

  2. hello first time commenting here! firstly, thank you so SO much for translating this novel. it has, by far, become my absolute favorite WN/LN/etc-novel and i’m truly grateful for getting the chance to read it. it’s so immersive and detailed and rich, truly a joy to read!

secondly: “In any case, it’s not like they were on Kang Qinwang’s side, so no need to give him face. And if his Majesty denounces, just let Jin Qinwang stand in front.”

this part absolutely made me wheeze in laughter. i love the writer’s narration so much. 😂😂 i can picture it so vividly

    1. Thank you for enjoying! Lol I think my greatest joy in translating this novel is the authors really sassy lines, probably because it fits my own humor so well.

  3. I initially thought the discrepancy was the Luo family history of 200-300 years but apparently its not. I reread the chapter and couldn’t find a new inconsistency. This frustrates me and makes me want to read the novel all over fro the beginning.

  4. Oh I know, I know!

It was mentioned that the Luo had a history of over two hundred years so they’re also a kind of ‘prestigious’ family. Then there was another time where it said they’re only a 100 year old family or so. Was confused by the change but figured I thought too much… or that the author just wanted to alter the Luo family’s status those times to match those given moments… hehe

    1. Wait do you remember where it said 100 hundred years? Need to double check to make sure I’m not the one that messed up on that. 😅😅 I know for the Luo family it’s supposed to be two three hundred years, and the Li imperial family only has 100 years history.

      1. Will let you know when I come across it when re-reading the series in the future; at this point I can no longer recall hahaha. I just remember it felt odd since I knew I read 200 years + early on in the series, so it stood out when it said otherwise at some other point

        1. Thanks that would be really helpful 😂😂 I just did a quick search scan of the chinese raws for ‘a hundred years’ and I did find one instance of it paired with the Luo family but it was ‘hundred years of clean reputation’ (百年清誉) which this in itself is an idiom, not sure if this was the one you saw. It was in chapter 128. But now I’m like slightly paranoid if I messed up somewhere else.

  5. The inconsistency.. is it that Luo old madam asked Zhang shi to break all relations with the Gu family?
I also wondered if otherwise its about sun yi jia’s dowry.. bt read up on it and it seemed okay.

  6. I know we’re like over two hundred chapters in, but I swear this is the fastest engagement to Marriage I’ve seen in an LN in like forever (except the ones that start with the marriage). Also, I went back to try and find the discrepancy and I got nothing, Jen. I bow to your observational skills. Thanks for the chapter!
