The clan leader madam sat in the same spot, unable to move for a long time, as if wanting to sit until the end of time, from then on reaching nirvana in a seated pose.

Suddenly, her tears just rolled down. No matter how she wiped, all unable to wipe clean. The servants were frightened, hurriedly attempting to pacify, but there wasn’t the slightest use. One the the older mamas gave a meaningful glance to a little servant girl. That little servant girl was also clever, quietly running out. The old madam like the eldest young miss the most. With the eldest young miss present, her smile would always increase.

Pei Xiu Ying also came rather quickly, her steps somewhat hasty, yet still not losing her bearing, “Great-grandmother, what happened?”

When the clan leader madam saw Pei Xiu Ying, she suddenly reached out, firmly grabbing, “Xiu Ying, Xiu Ying, don’t worry, don’t worry, great-grandmother, even if risking this old life, will still protect you, definitely will protect you……….” She has been weak for her whole life. When she’d lost her beloved daughter, she also could only silently shed tears. She definitely cannot let her great-granddaughter also end up being reduced to a pawn for life, such miserable end.

Pei Xiu Ying was completely confused, “Great-grandmother, don’t cry, first tell me what happened, alright?” She softly consoled.

The clan leader madam gradually stopped her tears, her expression also increasingly resolute, “Xiu Ying, your great-grandfather let me head to Chuanzhou Fu to meet Jin Qinwang, taking you along. What his intentions are, it can’t be more obvious, but don’t worry, great-grandmother won’t allow this kind of thing to happen, absolutely won’t allow it. Great-grandmother will find for you a good husband………..”

“Great-grandmother…………” Pei Xiu Ying’s voice somewhat sharply interrupted her, “Great-grandmother, this matter, I’d long known about. Great-grandfather had long told me, and I agreed to it. That’s why, you don’t need to be like this. Great-grandfather although is good-tempered, but he doesn’t allow for other’s to disobey him. You two have been in a loving relationship for a whole lifetime, don’t because of Xiu Ying, let hostility be born between you two.”

The clan leader madam was like as if getting splashed with a basin of ice water in the middle of winter, freezing to her bones, finally finding her voice after a long while, “Did your great-grandfather say something to you, or perhaps threatened you? Do you know what Jin Qinwang’s relationship is with our family?”

“Great-grandmother, what are you thinking, great-grandfather has always loved me dearly, how could he threaten me? I’m wholeheartedly willing. The family clan gave birth to me and raised me, giving me the best extravagant gowns and brocade clothes, giving me the best education and upbringing. When the family clan needs me, I naturally cannot turn my back. What the Pei clan’s situation is like currently, great-grandmother should have somewhat of an understanding. Precisely the so-called, ‘under an overturned nest, there are no intact eggs’. If Xiu Ying alone can reverse the situation, then naturally it’s for the best. As for Jin Qinwang’s relationship with our family, speaking from a certain sense, Xiu Ying should call him biao uncle. A few days ago, just happened to meet Jin Qinwang twice, he looks quite similar to great-grandmother…………….” Prior to meeting Li Hong Yuan, towards this ‘marriage’, Pei Xiu Ying was still indifferent, perhaps purely for the sake of the family clan’s interest, in addition to her ambitious heart that was full of desire. But after meeting him, aside from this, she also wanted to conquer that man.

The clan leader madam just felt even colder, with all the blood in her body about to freeze. Looking to this great-granddaughter before her that she loved to her bones, for the first time, she felt she was this unfamiliar. Don’t look at how she was saying it that righteously and virtuously, she also didn’t miss the ambition in her eyes. In the past, that charming and proud girl was also the most like Guan Guan, yet in reality, she was this kind of person? Perhaps, she was actually the most like that man. Was it that Xiu Ying disguised herself too well, or that she herself was blind, thus never detected?

So, in her eyes, this kind of life was nothing more than having obtained the so-called respect, and with that man, it was also considered a loving relationship?

Unknowingly, she’d already retracted her hand. She felt she was very laughable. The person that needed her protection, she didn’t protect and just helplessly watched from the side. And when she finally summoned the courage to protect someone, the other party simply didn’t need it, and perhaps would even feel she was being meddlesome. She originally was just someone that never dared to disobey her husband. The courage this time came with great difficulty, yet it was this easily shattered. Perhaps in the future, it all won’t appear again, and also won’t have anyone that will make her produce this kind of thought again. She will properly play out her own role in this rear court, being a temper-less living Bodhisattva, extending her hand for clothes, opening her mouth for food. Thoughtlessly eating and waiting for death, who doesn’t know how? In any case, based on that man’s desire for control, the rear court all didn’t need for her to worry over.

“Since that’s the case, then just go back and start packing. At the latest, we will probably set out tomorrow.”

Pei Xiu Ying felt she was seemingly somewhat off, but as for the specifics, she was unable to figure out. Carrying a bit of worry on her face, “Great-grandmother, it’s Xiu Ying that let down your kind intentions…………”

“No, great-grandmother also just hope for you to be well, that’s all. Great-grandmother knows you are a good child. Regardless of how the future will be, all need to be well.” Even if her heart had grown cold, this was someone she’d cupped in her palm for that long after all. Even if loving the house and its crow, how could there not be the slightest true feelings. As such, she naturally can’t possibly curse her and hate her, just that share of cherishment and love will also just end here.

Pei Xiu Ying’s expression was somewhat dim, “It’s Xiu Ying’s fault.” In the end, she still hasn’t cultivated to the Pei clan leader’s level, becoming coldhearted and callous, completely unscrupulous in means.

“Fine, go back and start packing then.”

“Yes.”

The Pei clan leader madam watched Pei Xiu Ying’s figure disappear in the doorway. Hope that you won’t regret for your whole life.

Not long after Pei Xiu Ying left, that pair of twin sisters just appeared, and most likely had ran into one another outside.

In the past, she perhaps would even ponder whether or not these two sisters would rely on their status as elders and give Xiu Ying trouble again. Thinking of it now, it was also because she cared thus muddled. As the legitimate eldest di daughter of the fourth generation, the people of the above three generations loved and pampered, and further had the head of the family shielding, so how could she possibly suffer a loss? Even if there were people that hated her out of jealousy, at most it was also just small skirmishes. It was absolutely impossible for it to go overboard. Taking the moment to recall, in the past, every time she got troubled, Xiu Ying would never voice her grievance, yet there would always be someone that would intentionally or otherwise reveal it to her, and she naturally would just get angry.

And every time, Xiu Ying would always console her with a smile, saying that she wasn’t wronged. Speaking in terms of family rank, they were her paternal aunts, but in terms of age, they were even younger than her. And moreover, it was nothing more than playing a small joke, no need to take seriously. With her being this magnanimous and well-mannered, as the great-grandmother, she naturally just increasingly heartached, and of course, would just stand up for her. Originally just a small matter, yet she insisted on giving a heavy punishment. Afterwards, Xiu Ying would plea for them again, and this punishment would just increase to a hundred and twenty percent.

As such, even the tiniest matter all would have her, this old fossil, ‘take revenge’ for her, and she, Pei Xiu Ying, didn’t need to do anything at all, even ending up with a good reputation. In the manor, which one didn’t praise her for being filial, magnanimous, and good-tempered. Yet, in reality, it was nothing more than having accurately grasped her, this old fossil’s temperament, repeatedly exploiting, also having the degree grasped appropriately,

As the person involved, one was muddled. Suddenly stepping back and recalling, it made one extraordinarily alarmed, practically shivering all over.

The Pei clan leader madam gasped for breath, as if about to choke, unbearably painful.

The servants saw the situation amiss and hurriedly went forward to soothe her back. And the two sisters, who were somewhat hesitant after entering, also got frightened, hurriedly going forward, “Grandmother, grandmother…………..quickly invite the doctor…………..” Although their grandmother didn’t like them that much, but the most basic sense of filial piety, they still knew.

T/N: This part actually reminded me of the Empress’s relationship with Sun Old Madam. Sun Old Madam also once mentioned that she fought with the old duke to prevent Empress Sun from marrying Le Cheng Emperor, but ultimately gave up when the Empress said she was willing to marry. I suppose it’s roughly same kind of feeling.

  1. For the entire pie family, the only one that I feel sad for is the great grandmother and I hope our ml kill every single one of them, fast.

  2. It’s so interesting to see the parallel between her and JW… both of them are beloved members of the family (although in different ways), and turned out so differently. However, it’s easy to see why they are so different.

    1. I actually never considered this before, but it’s an interesting parallel. Although I guess it ultimately comes down to genuinely loving your family and ‘loving’ out of personal interest and benefit.

  3. I have a feeling that the Old Madam is going to side with the son of her beloved daughter. Had she not seen the hussy’s true colours, she would undoubtedly put all her support behind her. But now she’s had her blinders so painfully ripped off, she will likely just sit to the side and let LHY deal with the situation as he sees fit. I hope that the Old Madam can get close to Jing Wan, to help her sooth her torn heart.

  4. damn… can’t help but feel bad for this great-grandma :/ she got played by both her husband AND her precious great-granddaughter, i can’t even fathom how that would feel

im wondering, how affected she will be when LHY takes down xiu ying? i guess that would depend on what exactly LHY has in plan for this overly ambitious niece of his…. shivers
