“Many people all believe this, but after investigating back and forth, all unable to find the true culprit, in the end, having no choice but to conclude as an accident.”

Jing Wan slightly furrowed her brows. This matter clearly had problems, and Jing Wan’s first reaction was just Ruan Fang Fei’s doing. However, Ruan Fang Fei was trapped in Zhong Qinwang’s rear court, isolated and alone. Did she have that great of a capability to drag the entire manor to the grave with her? This matter, her husband certainly must know about, just he didn’t tell her. Later, she needs to properly ask him.

“Anything else?” Jing Wan continued asking, having this matter temporarily set aside.

“Other than that, it’s just some trivial matters, nothing more than just this family marrying off a daughter, that family taking a wife, and so on.”

Jing Wan nodded. She felt that she should go back and directly ask the shadow guards that stayed in the capital. They certainly will know more than these two, and also know more clearly.

After saying this much, time actually passed quite quickly. Xuan’er started looking for her mother.

Xuan’er may be half a year younger than Rui’er, but this weight wasn’t much less. However, because the meat on the body was very firm, she didn’t appear very fat.

She had a pair of large eyes, just like two lustrous grapes, appearing exceptionally bright.

Jing Wan didn’t hold her again. After all, the accessories on her were quite a few. While currently at the age where one liked to move around, Jing Wan worried that she would get injured, so just held her little hand.

Previously when mentioning children, they’d already wanted to ask Jing Wan, yet because of Luo Jing Ying’s appearance, it got interrupted.

“Your stomach really doesn’t have movements?” Yuan Qiao Qiao stared at Jing Wan’s stomach, saying it quite bluntly, “Having been lovey-dovey for half a year, sweet like honey, how come just didn’t get pregnant?”

Jing Wan rolled her eyes at her, “In the second month of next year, I’ll just be sixteen, what’s the hurry. Besides, right now isn’t the time.”

Sun Yi Jia instantly understood. Looks like her certain guesses were mostly correct. Right now in the Luo family, towards her husband as well as the other brother-in-laws, grandfather has been diligently instructing, more or less revealing some things to them, and Luo Jing Bo for the most part didn’t hide anything from her. Based on Sun Yi Jia’s intelligence, she more or less would discover some clues. Jing Wan’s words right now for the most part can be considered a kind of confirmation. For the person that will sit onto the throne, it was better to be one with a closer relationship to oneself.

Jing Wan glanced at her. The two of them smiled with a tacit understanding.

Rather, it was Yuan Qiao Qiao that was still confused. Giving birth to children, even need to specially pick a time?

Time swiftly passed by just like that.

When it reached the afternoon mealtime, it was rather lively, and no trouble occurred.

After the afternoon meal, Jing Wan had her husband thrown aside and napped in Luo Old Madam’s room. After getting up, she spent another two hours accompanying Luo Old Madam, all the way until Li Hong Yuan couldn’t bear anymore, personally coming to Luo Old Madam’s place to seize the person. Jing Wan, in front of her elder’s face, voluntarily held his hand, smoothing the fur, successfully preventing him from exploding.

However, Li Hong Yuan still proposed to take their leave with a cold face.

Luo Old Madam took it all in, inwardly laughing. The rumored fickle and loose playboy, in reality, was just an infatuated type. Have to say, this really was quite surprising. “Having come back for this long, it’s also more or less enough. After all, wangye’s status is different, so staying too long is indeed not too good. Wan Wan, it’s best to go back with wangye sooner.”

“If you truly miss them, just come again in a few days. At present, we’ve just returned to the capital, so how many eyes are watching us. If we stay too long, it won’t do any good.” Li Hong Yuan patiently explained.

Jing Wan glanced at him, the mouth not matching the heart. This man clearly just wish for her to thoroughly forget about her maiden family and just have him in her heart.

“In that case, we will go back first. However, if something comes up, grandmother absolutely must send someone to tell me.”

“Alright, know that you just like to worry, but you should really worry about wangye more.”

Li Hong Yuan nodded. That’s right, these words were truly too right.

The people in the manor all gathered together to deferentially see them off.

Outside the gates, just as they were about to get on the carriage, Jing Wan suddenly turned around, “Mother………….”

“Ah, ah, Wan…….wangfei has something to say?” Anyone could tell Zhang-shi had something to say to her. This whole time coming out, that gaze was all on Jing Wan the entire time. Based on her ability to cry easily, for her to have been able to endure until now and not cry out, it was already quite impressive.

“Mother, the early plum flowers in Falling Plum Residence are about to bloom in a bit, right? When time comes, why don’t you clip a few branches for me and send to the qinwang manor? Father won’t heartache right?”

Zhang-shi naturally agreed repeatedly. Luo Rong Yan, because was a man, even if her father, didn’t have the opportunity to speak with Jing Wan. The things his daughter wanted, how could he not agree to? Never mind a few branches of plum blossoms, he hated that he couldn’t have the entire tree all dug up for her. However, Luo Rong Yan also knew, how was his daughter just asking for plum flowers. What she wanted was ‘affection’. Between them, there was a bit of estrangement, and now that Jing Wan was willing to mend, naturally it was great. “When time comes, father will personally clip some for you.”

Jing Wan smilingly nodded, and then also advised her shu younger brother and sisters a few words.

The three of them all appeared a bit moved. After all, Jing Wan truly wasn’t considered close with them. Moreover, right now, her status was high, so they further didn’t dare to approach her on their own.

On the horse carriage, Li Hong Yuan naturally had Jing Wan pulled into his arms. In the beginning, they were both quiet, not speaking. About a cup of tea’s time later, Li Hong Yuan softly opened his mouth, “Father-in-law very much has the natural talent as an official.”

“En?” Jing Wan was a bit puzzled at this.

“Father-in-law previously looked for me to chat, asking some things. Afterwards, I discovered that father-in-law is quite keen towards the matters in court. If he’s determined to take the path of officialdom, then in the future, he certainly won’t be inferior to your grandfather.”

Jing Wan at first was somewhat astonished, and then afterwards, fell silent. A moment later, she finally opened her mouth, “Grandmother once said, father is actually the most intelligent one among his brothers. In the past, father was once even the successor that grandfather had prepared to cultivate. However, afterwards, father truly was disinterested in the matters of the court. He dislikes the fights and schemes, he dislikes dealing with those people in officialdom, and he isn’t really considered a pure scholar either. He likes flowery poetry and likes playing with precious metals and such. For him to walk the path of officialdom, it’s probably because of me.”

In Jing Wan’s eyes, her father was just someone that liked the romantic life, pursuing carefreeness, and also indifferent towards fame and fortune, like the clear moonlit sky.

“It’s enough for you to just have me, no need for him to come back you. He very much can continue on with his carefree life.”

Jing Wan helplessly laughed, “In father’s bones, he’s actually very stubborn. I heard that, that year, he didn’t want to walk the path grandfather laid out for him. At first, grandfather didn’t really just indulge him. The two of them had ‘fought’ for quite some time. In the end, however, it was grandfather that compromised. Although grandfather emphasized on the later generation’s own aspirations in this aspect, it was still more than enough to see that father was one that was difficult to turn back once he decides on something. If he really has decided already, even if you and I urge him, afraid it would still be useless.”

“In that case, then just let him do as he pleases. The things he’s doing right now still aren’t prominent, just slowly climbing up, but in the future, there will naturally be a time for him to greatly show off. In any case, as long as he has talent, why would one not use? This prince’s father-in-law, presumably, will be even more hardworking, so naturally even more handy in using, so what’s the harm?”

That’s why, even if his father-in-law, to dare come steal his wife’s attention, then just don’t blame him for ruthlessly squeezing dry. Moreover, it was his father-in-law offering himself up on his own.

They slowly moved along. The two of them were currently intimately snuggling together, when suddenly the weeping cries of a woman sounded from outside, carrying bitter sorrow, and also carrying a tenderness that melted the insides, “………….Wangye, wangye, please come out and meet this slave. This slave really misses you, really really misses you, begging you, begging you, please. This slave just wants to meet you one last time. As such, as such, even if this slave dies immediately, one can rest in peace. Wangy, wangye…………”

Jing Wan lifted her head, faintly looking to Li Hong Yuan, “This woman outside, is calling for wangye you?”

Li Hong Yuan wasn’t the least bit nervous, “Probably.”

“One of the seven day extreme pampering?”

“Perhaps.” Li Hong Yuan even nonchalantly leaned back, finding an even more comfortable position.

“Then, wangye doesn’t want to say a bit of something?”

“Say what? Isn’t this Wan Wan’s matter? This kind of thing, don’t let this prince repeatedly remind Wan Wan.”

Jing Wan nodded, getting up and going out. Standing on the horse carriage, she looked down from above at the woman detained by the guards, who was crying like raindrops on a pear blossom. “Have the person tied up and send her back to wherever she came from. If nowhere to go, then just stuff the mouth, tie on rocks, and throw into the city moat.”

  1. Happy New Year Jen!! 🎊🎉
Luo Rong Yan reminds me a lot of persons who have talent and skills in certain areas but squander it away. I can understand him not wanting to involve himself in the dirty world of officialdom but honestly if he had walked that path given his ability amongst his brothers then he could have definitely secured a better future for his children and maybe Jing Wan’s outcome in her past life might have been different or maybe not but he definitely could given them a better standing in their social circle.

    1. Regarding Luo Rong Yan, I do think that if he’d applied himself in the first lifetime, Jing Wan would’ve had a better social standing, but I don’t think it would hav prevented her tragedy, given that with how the novel hints it being the heavens and gods practically cursing JW with a tragic fate. After all, even her grandfather couldn’t go beyond being the Head Minster of Rites in the first lifetime, and her ‘enemy’ in the first lifetime was the imperial family, so at that point, no matter how high of a social standing, in front of actual power, it’s all useless.

Despite a lot of people blaming Luo Rong Yan in the early chapters, because of the circumstances of the previous life being so complicated, the problem actually lied more in Jing Wan herself and her own decisions. So even if her father had became the Prime Minster, it wouldn’t have changed her tragic end. All in all, whether her father had applied himself or not, it all wouldn’t have been able to change Jing Wan’s fate. This last point will become more clear as more about the previous life gets revealed, ever so slowly lol.

      1. Really looking forward to reading about Wanwan & Yuan’ers past lives and interaction. Are they flashbacks here and there or chapters/sections?
