The Whole Family Harmonious? (1)

Li Hong Yuan neither quickly nor slowly stepped into Yucui Palace. Along the way, don’t know how many people’s eyes he’s attracted, and made don’t know how many little palace maids blush. Towards this living Enma, as long as didn’t approach, and only viewed from far away, then he really was quite pleasing to the eyes. “This son has come to greet consort mother.”

Seeing this unreasonably handsome son, even Noble Consort Su couldn’t help but feel dazzled. Unfortunately, probably because he was too good-looking, his other aspects just seemed too tragic. If he were to just slightly improve a little in one of the other areas, or not be that ill-tempered, or not be that lustful towards beauties, or perhaps do some proper work, and not just ignore his proper duties, this way, even if he cursed wives, it still wouldn’t be to the extent where even now, there still wasn’t a single intimate person looking after him. Regarding this, it was all heart-aching matters. “Quickly get up. How are Yuan’er’s injuries?”

“Have troubled consort mother to worry, this son is already fine.” Noble Consort Su’s spirit was not bad, but a little wane. Probably because a few days ago, there weren’t any news on him, thus causing her to neither eat nor sleep well. After learning that he’d safely returned to the capital, she finally relaxed some and nurtured back some of her spirit. It had merely been ten some days, the injury naturally couldn’t have already recovered completely. But for someone who was able to move about freely in less than twenty hours, concern and worry were just excessive.

“How can you be fine, consort mother already heard from the imperial physician. Really this child, if your injuries haven’t recovered, just directly tell your imperial father and peacefully recuperate in your manor. You just had to not say anything, causing your imperial father to be irritable all day. The court officials all suffered, yet dares not to blame your imperial father, instead marking a stroke against you.”

“Are the number of grudges pinned on this son’s head from them any less? It won’t lack this one.” Li Hong Yuan unconcernedly said.

Noble Consort Su was also very much helpless towards this apathetic mindset of his. “Just where exactly did I go wrong, how did I raise you into such?”

“It has nothing to do with consort mother. It’s this son’s own fault.” Li Hong Yuan, compared to going against Le Cheng Emperor from time to time and occasionally talk back, in front of Noble Consort Su, he definitely can be considered obedient.

“Since you know it’s your own fault, can’t you change?”

“It has long become a habit and can’t be changed, or is it that consort mother also doesn’t love me anymore, starting to disdain me?” Li Hong Yuan looked to Noble Consort Su with a faint expression.

Noble Consort Su strangely saw the ‘grievance’ in his eyes, and her heart softened, instantly forgetting her temper. “Alright, don’t look at this consort like that. Just be however you please, even your imperial father can’t bother with you anymore. You’re already twenty some years old, this consort is also too lazy to bother with you.” Still have to blame this son of hers for being too good-looking. Just by softening his expression a little, he can make one unbearable. No wonder those women become desperate after getting pampered by him for a few days. She, as his consort mother, even fell for his tricks. “You came directly to this consort’s place again? Why didn’t you go visit your imperial father first? He’s going to be jealous again.” Noble Consort Su said in displeasure.

Li Hong Yuan hooked a smile, “Would imperial father be jealous of this son, or jealous of consort mother?”

Noble Consort Su was startled by his sudden smile again and instantly got angry. She grabbed the tea cup by her hand and threw it at him, “As expected, your imperial father was right, you really are a little demon, even daring to tease your consort mother? This consort hasn’t sorted you out in a long while, is your skin itching, huh? Want this consort to whip you again today?”

Li Hong Yuan pretended to dodge. He knew that tea cup was still far from him. How could Noble Consort Su possibly want to harm him for real. “Consort mother don’t be angry, this son knows wrong.”

Noble Consort Su coldly laughed, “Knows wrong, knows wrong, which time did you not know wrong, and which time did you change? All say if one knows wrong, and is able to change, then that would be the greatest good. But what about the ones that don’t change?”

“This time I’ll definitely change, there won’t be a next time. Consort mother don’t harm the body from anger.” Li Hong Yuan hurriedly spoke.

Noble Consort Su blanked. Her first reaction was ‘why was he this obedient this time?’ Shortly after, she strangely began feeling sentimental again. No matter how insolent Yuan’er was, whenever he made a mistake, as long as it was related to her, he would always correct himself first thing. It was really as he said, won’t happen a second time. She knew he loved her, but as a mother, which one would really care that much about one’s own sons’s little mistakes? But this child was always dead serious every time. If one really were to point out, afraid he won’t know what to do again. “Remember, in the future, go pay your respects to your imperial father first.” She moved away from the previous topic.

“If I go to that side first, then today, I probably won’t be able to come here.” Li Hong Yuan also very considerately didn’t mention it anymore either. “And in the future? Wait until then and see.”

“What are you planning again?” Noble Consort Su felt entirely deflated, very much powerless.

“Don’t worry consort mother, this son isn’t planning on doing anything.”

Noble Consort Su had a ‘it’d be strange to actually believe you’ expression.

“This time, imperial father didn’t notify this son beforehand and just willfully bestowed a marriage. If it was a beauty, then whatever, but it just had to be a disfigured old woman, and don’t even allow this son to be discontent?” It was obvious that he was unsatisfied with this marriage and thus came to find Le Cheng Emperor to complain. However, whenever this mouth of spout poison, it also makes one wish they could have his mouth sealed up.

“What nonsense are you saying? Miss Sun is currently sixteen years of age, how come in your mouth, she just turned into an old woman?”

Li Hong Yuan sneered, “Sixteen, never mind that she hasn’t married before getting bestowed, she didn’t even have an engagement. If not an old woman that couldn’t be married off, then what?”

“If she’d been married, or had an engagement, before getting bestowed, would she still be bestowed to you?”

“If she’d settled her marriage earlier, then imperial father wouldn’t have needed to drag this son out to be the scapegoat.” Li Hong Yuan didn’t yield in the least on this issue.

“Your words are getting more and more disgraceful, what do you mean using you as a scapegoat? How can you say that about your imperial father?”

“Is it not? Don’t assume that this son doesn’t know anything, just because this son wasn’t in the capital these days. Ding Duke has never disliked making things big, wishing he could have his daughter’s disfiguration be known throughout the entire Qi Yuan Empire. Imperial father found him bothersome, so he just used this son to stuff his mouth. What does he see this son as? If he really was that kind-hearted, that benevolent, why don’t he just directly have the person taken into the harem. Perfect for keeping the Empress company, aunt and niece serving one husband can also pass on a beautiful story.”

(T/N: Historically, there actually was one such pair. In the Qing dynasty, one of the Emperors, Hong Taiji, his Empress was the paternal aunt of his favorite consort. Think there’s a drama based on the love story between him and his consort.)

“Yuan’er……”

“Bastard—”

Not waiting for Noble Consort Su to reply, Le Cheng Emperor’s angry voice bellowed from outside. That voice was so loud that it could quake down the tiles from the roof.

Afterwards, something directly flew towards Li Hong Yuan. And as if he grew eyes on the back of his head, Li Hong Yuan moved out of the way. With a ‘pah’ sound, that object fell onto the ground, shattering. A half a palm sized piece of top quality antique jade was gone just like that, making Noble Consort Su can’t help but heartache.

“Bastard, what were you saying just now, dare to say it again?”

Li Hong Yuan just used his finger to scratch his sore ears, and then opened his mouth, wanting to repeat his words just now. As a result, he was immediately stopped by Noble Consort Su, who’d quickly walked down from the main seat. She blocked in front of him, blocking in between Li Hong Yuan and Le Cheng Emperor. Li Hong Yuan raised an eyebrow and retracted his arm without leaving a trace, but at the same time, also chose to shut his mouth.

T/N: It’s actually been a little over a year since I started working in novel translations. Including the chapters I translated for the publishing company I used to work at, I’ve probably translated about 300-400 chapters of cnovel. I want to be able to keep translating for as long as I can. At least I hope to see all my projects to the end.

  1. Stay strong Jen! You can do it! I love your translation and I love this novel too. I will stick with you until this novel finished translated. Good luck 🙌

  2. I love this series and I love your translation. I save up a few chapters before I read cause I find reading the chapters in parts frustrating. I always want the rest of it.
I’m sorry the thieves have you feeling down. Sometimes a good cry helps relieve stress. I always read on your site. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to translate and share this story. You are appreciated

  3. I’ve also been a silent reader for this series. I usually stockpile chapters and binge read. I am so sorry Jen that you’ve been so negatively affected by those thieving aggregator sites. I know those sites are the bane of every translator.
I feel like the idea someone else had about putting the link for your site in the disclaimer is the best way to advertise your site.
Thieving jerks have no conscience and they won’t care about your pleas, but know that you have lots of support from those of us who love your translations and feel a spark of joy when we see that you’ve updated a chapter.

    1. A lot of those sites remove links and now some even remove my credits and T/N I add in the chapters ;;;;v;;;;;

  4. Thanks for continuing this despite the disrespect of aggregator sites. You do a great job translating – it’s smooth and readable. I think the drama you mentioned is Rule The World with Raymond Lam. It’s fully subbed on YouTube.

  5. Aish I’m really sad you’re having such a hard time due to those thieving aggregators. Don’t call it stupid, its a perfectly valid reason! Ive broken up for things way more stupid, but the fact that they affect you so much in an emotional level means that you really care for them, they are important to you, and at the moment they gain the smallest amount of importance to you they stop being stupid. So, don’t use this to deprecate yourself thinking you are silly for crying over this, the fact that you are so affected proves that you are human and that your emotions can hve a strong impact on yourself, but (maybe contrary to what is taught in this society) this is not a defect or a shortcoming, its not something we need to feel embarrassed about, i think it would be more concerning if you didnt feel even a bit bothered by having the work you’ve spent so much effort and dedication to do stolen by people without principles.

This is just my opinion, being someone similar to you that may break down with negative emotions and see no more hope when sth i care for (it may seem a stupid thing to others but to me its not) seems to go down the drain and then i cry and then cry again (and i know its stupid nd i shouldnt but i cant do nothing to avoid reacting this way), until someone comes and tells me that its okay, theres still hope, it is not as bleak as it seems. So, this is just my opinion, but i dont think its wrong. If we only think rationally then we’re robots, in such a deshumanized world i think being so sensitive to your own emotions is not a shortcoming (tho it certainly is troublesome, that i cant deny) but a merit. (What’s more, being able to cry when sth goes wrong, if we ever transmigrate, we can perfectly play the part of being a white lotus, it’s all advantadges! oka now let me roll my eyes at myself lol).
I know its impossible not to feel down but at least know that we support you and you can always come to us for comfort, and we dont mind you venting as much as you need to either.
A very big, warm hug, from a reader that enjoys and appreciates each and every of your translations and all the effort you put behind it 😘

    1. Thank you ;;v;; I’m really glad that everyone has been really supportive. I always tend to bottle up my frustrations and stress, but crying it out has definitely helped a lot! I don’t think I ever find it as a bad thing, it’s just really unpleasant to deal with in the moment, especially to also feel helpless about a situation. I wouldn’t say it was a bleak feeling but more feeling unresigned(?) at the situation, mostly anger I suppose. I’m just upset at how unfair it is for them to make money off of my translations when I’m doing all the heavy lifting, and a bit slighted that both the site owners and hosting company ignored my dmca report.

Also thank you for dropping comments from time to time, reading comments have always been a great motivation for me!

  6. Love this novel and take it as they give you free pub place your links what not site name and if people are smart enough they will come here to read like how I found this story at first. And been reading it here since ever. Thank you for your love sweat and tears . A mostly quiet fan 🙂

    1. Thank you for coming here and supporting! I’m really happy that a lot of readers are willing to migrate over ;;v;;

  7. Oh, you’re talking about Harjol, right? Her younger sister actually married him first, and gave birth to the next Emperor. She herself didn’t like him that much apparently, and was probably forced to marry him after her first husband died. I saw a drama about them but it was so romanticized that it wasn’t even accurate to call it something based on their story tbh…

    1. I never watched the drama so I wouldn’t know, there’s a few documentaries on their ‘love story’; there really isn’t enough historical evidence for a full story, so a lot is just speculation, but it is common consensus that he really did favor her a lot.

  8. Well I don’t like to comment that much but today I had to seeing translator of my favorite novel have difficulties.
We all are here for you,….:):)

  9. Hi, silent reader here
First of all i’m really sorry because i never leave a comment before. I am really happy and grateful that you took time to translate this novel. This novel is one of my favourite since i found it in novelupdates.
I’m really sorry that you have to go through that situation, but. I can assure you that there are plenty people who read in your website and really appreciate your work. I’m sorry that i have no way to help you to protect your translation, how about put a code that you need to enter to read a chapter? Or maybe you could put fake translation and by the end or in the middle of it, put the direct link to access the translation? And of course put the word “this translation belong to broken jinsei” “read only on brokenjinsei” amybe it could prevent bot site to copied your translation?
Once again, thank you so so much for your hardwork, and please remember that your work is helpful to people like me to help me relax and reduce stress f om daily life and work. Thank you

    1. No worries (ノ゚▽゚)ノ I’m just happy people enjoy my translations!

I’ve tried a lot of things to protect my translations, but most of them have failed. And at the end of the day, I also don’t want to do anything to inconvenience my readers here, and I’m a bit ocd with my site’s layout. It’s a lot of work to work out solutions for this and I don’t really want to take time away from translating any more than I already have. A part of it is probably because it sucks to feel disappointed again and again, seeing those sites put ads on my translations is like rubbing salt on the wound. I appreciate the sentiments though uwu)

  10. This is probably my favourite novel, and thank you so much for the effort and dedication you put it. It really shows in the quality of the translations and makes reading it such an enjoyable experience. I know that it must suck to have other sites leech off your hard work, and I’m so sorry about that. Thank you for bringing this to readers like me, that are usually silent readers, and may not tell you how much we appreciate it.

    1. I’ve always mostly assumed that I had more silent readers ahaha ∩(´∀`∩) but thank you for supporting! It’s a bit of a helpless situation and I’m definitely not the only translator affected by it, but it does make me happy to hear that people care( ^ω^)

  11. I love your work. And I truly appreciate the time and effort (=love) that you put into this novel. I like this story too and I always look forward to it! Perhaps the tears you shed was also about how powerless you felt at being “at the mercy of unscrupulous people”.
On the other hand, there are also a lot of joy and satisfaction in doing what you love and getting the appreciation from readers like me will comfort you. I’m sure there are many others but for some reason not able to express appreciation openly to you. When I first started reading translated C novels, I didn’t know I was reading from stolen sites. To be honest the main reason I read from there was because I could change background Colour (for my poor eyes!) and adjust the font size. I wasn’t aware that they were stolen sites. Until I found novel updates which had led me to you.
So, there could be readers out there who were like me who didn’t know any better and I’m certain they appreciate good translated work.
    Thank you once again. 😍

    1. I’m happy to hear that you like my translations and this novel! o(´∀`*) And thank you for converting over lol.

It was a lot of frustration and stress built up, it’s sorta hard to ignore it completely, especially when knowing that most those sites put ads on my translations and profit off of it. I guess I was really sad that everything I did to protect my own work turned out all in vain. Hopefully more people will become aware of the issue and stop supporting those sites.

  12. Aaahhh It’s horrible that people are just stealing translations that are not theirs! I just want to tell you how much I appreciate all your hard work and always look forward to the next. Thank you so much and you are appreciated!

  13. I’m sorry that I could be of no help but did you know how rebirthonline protected your translation on their site? How about the one in creativenovels? Unfortunately, it’s the internet and people will always find ways around those, no matter how much “protection” you put on it. I can’t imagine how much this would suck for you on some level. Anyway, thank you for still pushing through with posting this wonderful novel and sharing it with us despite everything.

    1. Reading your comments occasionally have always greatly motivated me (´・∀・`) so thank you!

I’ve always tried to stay optimistic about it, but when things keep failing to work, the frustration just builds up I guess. I’m not surprised that translations get stolen, but it does suck to feel helpless about it. Before I moved sites, my previous method to protect them sorta worked, but since moving and updating the links on NU, those sites also updated with all my translations, so I kinda wish I could turn back time and go back to how it was before. I’ll be okay though, I’m a short-term sulker lol.

  14. Hello, I really thank you for translating this series. Your translation for me, is very high quality and I believe that you did your best in translation. I’m sorry that you have to go through that kind of situation. I’m not sure if this would make you feel better but I do read in your website and appreciate all your hard work. Thanks for introducing me this novel 🙂

    1. Thank you, it means a lot ( ´ ∀ ` ) I’m happy to hear that you like it!

  15. Sorry to hear you’ve been so frustrated by shitheads. For what it’s worth your translations are great and really help bring a lot of enjoyment when I see them listed as updated. So thank you.

    1. Thank you! I’m really happy that people are enjoying this novel! I guess when working on something you love, it’s hard not to be unaffected by things, but I’ll be okay.
