The Same Coffin, The Same Burial (2)

Time passed leisurely and quickly. Ning Guo and them also stayed on this side the entire time. Fuma went from the garrison general all the way up to the governor-general. During these ten plus years, they’d just returned to the capital a few times. For his family, this son really was like having been ‘married off’. However, as a son-in-law of the imperial family, this was also a helpless matter. However, Ning Guo also knew that not attending to her father-in-law and mother-in-law, even ‘kidnapping’ their son, was a bit mean, thus she unhesitantly had her children sent back to fulfill their filial duties for them.

Jing Wan was already over eighty. Now, she indeed appeared elderly, although her bearing was still extremely good, not having a hunched back, also appearing only like fifty to sixty.

But recently, she caught a cold, her complexion not too good.

Li Hong Yuan had the medicine fed into her mouth, spoonful by spoonful. He has also aged, but he was still a handsome old man. As someone who has truly reached his nineties, his longevity was genuinely unprecedented in history. The blue veins on the back of his hand was very obvious, but even so, his hand was still very firm, his back still upright.

The spoon was placed into the bowl, making a crisp sound. Li Hong Yuan used the handkerchief to lightly press against the corner of her mouth, and his gaze towards Jing Wan was still the same after several decades.

“Ah Yuan, let’s return to the capital.” Jing Wan softly said.

“Alright.” He responded without hesitation, just like back then when Jing Wan wanted to leave the capital.

Ning Guo stood to the side. These last few days, she’d actually moved into the villa as she’d wanted, but if possible, she actually didn’t wish to live here. She kept having a bad premonition, especially after her imperial mother said these words.

Li Hong Yuan didn’t have any emotional changes on the surface, turning around to instruct the servants to go prepare.

The speed in returning to the capital wasn’t quick, but they also didn’t stop over that much either, the trip much shorter than back then when traveling to Jiangnan.

And along the way, Jing Wan’s condition was occasionally good and occasionally bad. However, even when good, it wasn’t necessarily that good either. Even if having famous doctors and good medicine, it seemingly all didn’t have any effect on her anymore.

The accompanying people were all very worried. On the contrary, Li Hong Yuan was the most composed, not lashing out at anyone.

When reaching the capital city, Li Tian Lin came out to welcome with his descendants, as well as the civil and military officials.

Returning to Shouan Palace, Jing Wan could no longer get up anymore, her food intake also increasingly little. The times where she was awake also wasn’t a lot. However, she still took the opportunity to meet a few of the younger ones of her great-grandchildren.

Three days later, she suddenly summoned Li Tian Lin. Her spirit still appeared pretty good, but Li Tian Lin still blanked, his eyes uncontrollably reddening. This clearly, clearly was the dying flash.

Li Tian Lin knelt by Jing Wan’s bedside, his body slightly trembling, unable to contain himself, “Imperial mother.”

“Tian Lin, your eldest son will be fifty in a few years. He is already a grandfather now. Could it be that you really want to let him be the crown prince for a lifetime? What the imperial court is like at present, you should be clear inside. Those five brothers, as well as their descendants, whether it’s really like close brothers, harmonious and tight, you should further be clear inside. Your imperial father and I are both still present, you better not become muddled first. Power is a good thing, but more or less is enough.” Jing Wan wasn’t the least bit tactful, and after saying, she lightly began coughing.

Li Tian Lin blanked, “Imperial mother, imperial mother, this son was wrong, hope imperial mother can take care of one’s body.”

“Living to this age, it’s already enough.” Jing Wan lifted her eyes and glanced at her husband, naturally revealing a satisfied smile. Afterwards, she looked towards Li Tian Lin again, “Imperial mother is also just meddling one last time. Exactly what to do will depend on you. After all, when a person dies, it’s like the lantern extinguishing. What Qi Yuan’s mountains and rivers will be like in the future, it will be in your hands.”

“Imperial mother, this son……..”

“Alright, what to do, that is your business. There’s nothing left for you here, you can withdraw.”

Li Tian Lin’s lips slightly trembled, but he didn’t dare to disobey Li Hong Yuan either, “This son will take one’s leave.”

However, even if withdrawing, Li Tian Lin didn’t leave Shouan Palace. Previously, he already just had his descendants all summoned, including his married daughters. At present, they were already all gathered outside.

After Li Tian Lin went out, Jing Wan’s energy also weakened along with, “Ah Yuan.”

“En, I’m here.” Li Hong Yuan grasped her hand, his face sticking to her silver hair.

“Ah Yuan, I’m afraid I’ll be going ahead of you.” Jing Wan’s breath gradually weakened.

“Wait for me, I won’t let you wait for too long. We will be husband and wife again in the next life.”

Jing Wan smiled, “Having this lifetime, I’m already very satisfied. To be able encounter you, I feel I’ve already used up several lifetimes worth of fortune, so how can I dare be greedy for a next life.” Originally, at this time now, she already didn’t have anymore attachments, very open-minded, but when really coming to this point, she suddenly was unwilling to let go, very much unwilling. What was she saying, having this lifetime was enough, clearly it was wanting to be together for all eternity. “Ah Yuan.” She suddenly grabbed his hand.

“Wan Wan’s meaning, is wanting to have me pushed to someone else?”

“No, your mine, can only be mine, forever mine, mine…..” Her hand tightened a little more, as if wanting to have him tightly grasped in her palm.

“En, yours, for all eternity, always, that’s why, wait for me, very soon.” He kissed her forehead.

“En, I’ll wait for you. I believe you.” Jing Wan’s hand relaxed, and as soon as she let go, she no longer had anymore energy.

Li Hong Yuan lowered his head, seeing her already having peacefully closed her eyes. His hand lightly brushed over her cheeks, able to sense her breathing becoming increasingly faint.

“Someone come, summon them in.”

The palace maid didn’t dare to slight, hurriedly going out.

Very soon, with Li Tian Lin and Xie-shi in the lead, the crowd frantically entered. Seeing the scene inside, how could they not understand. “Imperial mother.”

Afterwards, tearful sobbing mixed in among the cries that sounded one after another.

“What are you all bawling for, annoying to death, all shut up for this emperor.” Li Hong Yuan’s voice wasn’t heavy, but each and every one all heard, hurriedly covering their mouth, not daring to make another sound.

Li Hong Yuan laid down holding Jing Wan, also quietly closing his eyes.

“Li Tian Lin, don’t let your imperial mother be disappointed.” A moment later, Li Hong Yuan faintly opened his mouth.

“Yes, this son definitely won’t let imperial mother be disappointed, definitely won’t.”

“This emperor let you all enter for the sake of letting you all send off your imperial mother one last time. Your imperial mother doesn’t like crying, so all be quiet for this emperor.”

Afterwards, Li Hong Yuan no longer opened his mouth. And all these people really didn’t utter another sound, even if still just an infant in swaddling clothes.

Li Hong Yuan in the end glanced at Jing Wan one more time, kissing her on her lips, before once again closing his eyes, quiet just like……..

Death wasn’t instantly ending, but rather a process.

Unknown as to how long passed, Jing Wan’s current head mama daringly went forward, extending her hand to check. After checking Jing Wan’s breath, she sensed that something was amiss, and tremblingly went to check Li Hong Yuan’s breath. Afterwards, her tears instantly just tumbled down, “Your Majesty, her Highness the Empress Dowager has passed, and his Majesty the Retired Emperor has also passed.”

Li Tian Lin violently lifted his head, tears still hanging from his face, his eyes filled with disbelief.

And in this moment, the weeping could no longer be controlled.

Li Tian Lin blankly stared for a moment, his head spinning, everything going dark before his eyes. With a sway of his body, he just directly collapsed towards the ground.

“Your Majesty——-”

Li Tian Lin got supported in time, taking a moment to recover, “This emperor is fine, go, sound the bells.”

In reality, prior to Jing Wan and them returning to the capital, they’d already passed back the news. That’s why, everything had long been prepared. As such, the matters afterwards, all methodically began carrying out.

And at this time, Jing Wan’s head mama brought out an imperial decree to give to Li Tian Lin. Although Li Tian Lin was the emperor, but as the Retired Emperor, Li Hong Yuan still had the power to issue a decree.

Opening it up, there was just four words on there: ‘same coffin, same burial’, stamped with Li Hong Yuan’s personal seal.

In reality, Li Tian Lin wasn’t that surprised either. Back then, when he first ascended the throne, he’d already began constructing the imperial tombs for his parents. At the time, his imperial father more or less just revealed a similar idea. Just, at the time, he was still thinking, if one were to pass early, and one were to pass later, could it be that they even need to have the coffin opened up again? But now, this wasn’t necessary.

The Nine Dragon, Nine Phoenix Coffin!

When the mourning bells sounded from the palace, the court officials were also long prepared, but hearing the sound, there was something amiss, this wasn’t just one person, clearly……..

How could they still dare to ignore in the slightest!

Once the news broke out, the entire Qi Yuan all sunk into mourning, the sorrowful cries shaking the heavens.

T/N: I originally had a lot to say when finishing this chapter, but now, I’m just glad I can rest from this project. Anyways the page for my next project is up, please check it out! —> Rebirth of the Treacherous Official’s Madam

This novel is a more traditional rebirth story, but both the leads reincarnated. I quite like this premise, but not a lot of double reincarnation stories that I enjoy. Anyways I won’t translate anything I don’t enjoy myself, so at the very least, this novel is Jen approved quality-wise. It’s also much much shorter than TWBW, only around 200 or so chapters.
