Setting aside Sun Yi Jia and her mother’s matter, by the time Jing Wan returned to where the Luo family resided, as expected, people of the Luo family, Yuan family, and Zhou family, all arrived. In the lead were the three young ladies’ mother. Presumably, the families had either agreed beforehand, or agreed by chance to follow behind the Ding Duke Manor. This way, no one could point out any problems.
As soon as Zhang-shi saw Jing Wan, her tears began overflowing again, “Don’t you dare cry…..” Jing Wan very helplessly said.
Zhang-shi’s tears that were about to fall were forced back, as she looked to Jing Wan with a pair of reddened eyes, even looking a bit pitiful.
If this was her first time seeing, she probably would’ve instinctively softened, but this look of hers Jing Wan was long immune to. “Mother, I’m very tired and sleepy right now, so I’ll go sleep first. I haven’t eaten mother’s cooking in this many years, how about mother use this time to making something for me? For me to eat when I wake, alright?”
“Okay, okay.” Zhang-shi hastily nodded her head, “Quickly go sleep then.”
“En.” Jing Wan smiled and waited until after Zhang-shi left, before finally exposing her weary state. “Mama, when we returned just now, those people we saw, which family are they from?”
“Should be the Head Cabinet Minister Sir Ruan’s family. Actually forgot to tell miss, at the time, that beast first collided with Sir Ruan’s youngest di daughter’s horse carriage. Miss Ruan’s carriage was coming down from the mountain, and although it was towards the inside, it still fell off the cliff altogether. After Miss Ruan was flung out from inside the horse carriage, she coincidentally landed on a cluster of vines. Thus, she wasn’t heavily injured. Just, it seems she’s suffered quite the fright and still hasn’t woken up yet.”
“Ruan Fang Fei, who’s equally as famous as big sister Jia? Well this is just perfect, in the capital, aside from those girls from the imperial family, the two most noble, and at the same time, most outstanding young ladies, both got injured together. Who knows what kind of problems this will cause.” Luckily, big sister Jia wasn’t very concerned about her ruined appearance. However, with the matter of Jin Qinwang’s assassination attempt shielding in front, this matter probably won’t cause any waves. “Never mind, even if I want help, I don’t have a say in this matter anyways.” Jing Wan massaged her temples and returned to her room, letting the servant girls serve her in changing clothes. In an important place of buddha, it’s still best to be a little bit more cautious. Although it wasn’t that comfortable sleeping with clothes on, lying down on the bed, she shortly fell asleep.
Jing Wan slept all the way until it was time to light the lamps[1]. In between, she had slept very deeply the entire time, without the slightest signs of waking. This scared everyone, thinking that perhaps there was some undetected internal injury. Zhang-shi had brought the Luo family’s residence doctor along too, so there was no need to bother Grandmaster Liao Chen again. Fortunately, the manor’s doctor was very certain that Jing Wan was just sleeping due to exhaustion. Once she’s slept enough, she’ll naturally wake up.
After Jing Wan woke up, her spirit all returned, only feeling her stomach rumbling with hunger.
As soon as she woke, Qing Lan, who was keeping watch nearby, naturally noticed first thing, “Miss, you’re finally awake.”
“En, bring some food, I’m hungry.” Jing Wan ordered, while getting up to wash her face and rinse her mouth.
“Before miss went to sleep, didn’t you say you wanted to eat madam’s cooking? Madam made a lot, but miss never woke up, so she continued remaking it again and has already repeated this process many times, just hoping for miss to be able to eat the most fresh and most delicious food after waking. This while, she should’ve just finished again.” Qing Lan explained.
Jing Wan suddenly felt somewhat guilty. She’d originally just wanted to brush off Zhang-shi by giving her something to do, so as to avoid her being all kinds of depressed and heartbroken again. Yet, unexpectedly, she kept busy the whole time.
Hearing the movements in the room, the people outside came in one after the other. Very soon, Zhang-shi personally came in with people carrying the food. “Wan Wan, you’ve finally woken. You must be starving, right? Quickly try some, don’t know if the things I’ve made still suits your taste or not.” Probably because she also understood Jing Wan’s situation, she rather didn’t linger on her injury.
“Mother’s gone through a lot of trouble, as long as it’s made by mother, I’ll always like.”
“Mother’s not troubled at all. If you like it, eat more.” Zhang-shi sat to one side, watching her eat, adding food to her plate from time to time.

Actually, Zhang-shi’s cooking was average, but the meaning was different, and in addition, Jing Wan was indeed hungry, so she ate quite a lot.
Zhang-shi also was aware that her cooking wasn’t very good, but regardless whether it was in the past at Qi’an Fu, or right now, her daughter would always give a lot of face, so she was naturally happy. Unlike Jing Bo, that darn brat, who would spit it out when he was younger, and now, just eat two bites before putting down his chopsticks. However, she still was quite self-aware, and only occasionally cooked. She can’t, just because her daughter gave face, try to torment her, right?
“Mother’s cooking has rather improved quite a bit.” Half was the truth, half was to coax Zhang-shi.
“Really?” Zhang-shi was pleasantly surprised. Her son and husband have never once praised her cooking before, let alone saying they liked it. “In the future, mother will cook for you again.”
“Okay.”
After the things on the table were cleared by the servant girls, Jing Wan rinsed her mouth and just sat there chatting with Zhang-shi. Although Zhang-shi has all kinds of shortcomings, she also had her good points. Towards her children, she was always very patient. Furthermore, because her mind was simple, you can happily chat with her about anything. Of course, it was all some lighthearted trivial matters. However, she would always gently smile as she listened, and respond to you. Afterwards, perhaps she wouldn’t remember a single word that was said, but the entire process was very relaxing.
“Mother, the time isn’t early anymore, why don’t you go back and rest.” She knew Zhang-shi normally didn’t have anything to do, and didn’t have any troubles either, so her daily schedule was very routine.
“Mother still isn’t sleepy right now, it’s not too late to wait until I’m sleepy to go back and rest.”
“I’ve just woken up, so for the time being won’t be sleeping again for a while. I know mother wants to accompany me, but I don’t have any less of people here, and if that’s no good, I can also read a book.”
Zhang-shi was still somewhat hesitant.
“Why don’t madam go rest first, old madam still has some matters and is waiting for miss to go over.” Gong mama timely opened her mouth.
“Ah? Why didn’t mama say so sooner, letting old madam wait this long is certainly a sin.” Zhang-shi somewhat helplessly said.
“No matter, old madam also slept a lot during the day, so this while, her spirit is quite good. Knowing that you are at miss’s place, letting you two speak for a bit before going over is not too late either.”
“Then Wan Wan, quickly go over, don’t let old madam wait too long. I’ll just head back first.”
“Okay.” Waiting until the servant girls had Zhang-shi sent off, Jing Wan then spoke, “Mama, is grandmother really looking for me for something?”
“Yes miss, the old madam has been waiting the whole time.”
“Then let’s head over right now. I just happened to also have something to tell grandmother.”
Jing Wan guessed, it must be that grandmother has already learned of Jin Qinwang’s matter. One has to know, a prince, a qinwang, getting attacked by assassins was beyond normal, and was definitely going to be reported to his Majesty. That way, majority of the court officials will also all know about it. So grandfather letting her mother bring a letter over was also very normal. After all, White Dragon Temple was the place where Jin Qinwang was attacked, and grandfather wasn’t the kind to absolutely not have the matters of the court told to grandmother. His purpose was also very simple, if grandmother knew, then inquire about some of the specifics, if she doesn’t know, then just inform him. After all, these two days, even if White Dragon Temple was peaceful on the surface, in the shadows, afraid the undercurrents were already stirring. Just, her involvement with Jin Qinwang, don’t know if his side has contacted grandmother or not.

Thank you for the chapter… has been reading it for the 2nd time while waiting the new chapter..
My mom can’t cook very well too but me n sister love her cooking despite the other does not want to eat it…
Zhang shi if you want to be kind she is pure, if you dont want to be kind you could say she’s stupid.
If you want to speak bluntly, she’s as dumb as a brick and about as useful as one too.
“As soon as Zhang-shi saw Jing Wan, her tears began overflowing again, “Don’t you dare cry…..” Jing Wan very helplessly said.”
Hahahahahaha, and another mother-daughter duo’s weird dynamic. Gee, so cold. She just wants peace I get it, I probably would have done the same but I’m kinda surprised at how cold it is from the outside. No wonder my friends say I’m cold hearted at times…
“use this time to making”, probably meant make.
So the beast didn’t hit them directly. It hit RR’s carriage first. Makes sense now that it’s a scheme. Foreshadowing was on point and now the explanation is there. Omg, the vines SOOOOO conveniently cushioning her fall. Well, it feels kinda good to have a clever villain for once. And well, for SYJ there were more benefits than misfortunes. Her relationship with JW has deepened. No more political marriage. Relationship with mother mended, or about to be. And well, she can clean up her courtyard from the I’ll-intentioned though I’m no longer sure they’ll make a move with her mother now shielding her.
JW rested and ready for more face slapping. It’s coming up soon, I can feel it.
OK JW… So now you know how to feel filial guilt lol. Underestimated white lotus mother again? She only means well! Lolololol
Aww… the good side to Zhang-shi personality. I just can’t get over how everyone is so 3-dimensional. White lotus just became beige. She doesn’t want to torture her children to much, she has awareness that her cooking is average. Cute. But Hahaha she can’t remember deep conversations or be trusted to lol. One step forwards, two steps back.
I wonder if JW will mention LHY to her grandmother. With their bond so strong I’m inclined to say yes. But I’d be both disappointed and understanding if she doesn’t. Ancient times really… But her grandparents are gold. Please do. In secret with no servant but gong mama around.
In fact, the grandparents pair are soooo kawaii. He lets her in the know and it’s second nature basically to them… This amount of trust wow. So glad.
Thanks for the chapter!
Ahahaha… truly… Zhang-shi is also lucky. If she hadn’t been and had been in a different family… she would have been eaten alive.
If Zhang-shi didn’t have a husband who respects her, no matter how smart JW is, Zhang-shi might end up dead and JW abused as a young girl (like any novel trope). So yeah, Zhang-shi is a good mother but could indirectly cause JW harm if JW wasn’t smart to begin with. 😑
Thanks for the chapter! 😁
Well I mean there’s still grandpa and grandma Luo—and they don’t even like Zhang-shi lmaoo tbh the only reason everything worked out I think is mostly because her grandparents are smart, and Jing Wan was pretty much fully raised by grandma Luo’s side.
I have a name that is used in both Chinese and Japanese novels and mostly my name-sake character is a cannonfodder second FL… so I really get that little sliver of hope, followed by crushing disappointment. Lol
AHAHHAHHA I FEEL! Zhang is a really common surname in China, but rarely do I meet a good character that has it in cnovels……most times it’s always like some villain’s servant that get offed in like 2chaps.
Villain Zhang Jen. It rhymes. Kinda.
Nice to meet you Translator Zhang 😄😍 I loved your comment about Yi jia being the ML…😂😂😂
Thanks for the update.
you don’t understand lmaoo it really gets pretty yuri between the two 😂😂😂
troubles are brewing Xp
