T/N: I’ve mentioned before somewhat that LJY has a development/redemption arc, which is why her chapters really aren’t that bad to go through. It’s really based on how well the author writes certain characters. At least to me nothing can raise my blood pressure as much as that white lotus family. The Gu family are dead to me.

Rui Wangfei remind me of the MC from Rebirth of Malicious Empress from Military Lineage. Just, Rui Wangfei sobered up more early than her. Or, it’s jus Rui Wang remind me too much of her scum husband (husband of past life= ex-husband?).
I kinda pity LJY. She was young and got conned into this mess by and older, more experienced guy. She is jealous of JW, but I can’t say if I were in her shoes, I wouldn’t also be jealous of JW who is the apple of her mother’s eye and is always praised. She was always compared to JW since birth and who wouldn’t in her place be annoyed with that? Yes, she wants to be a loved by a prince – what little girl doesn’t?

I shudder to think of LHM has the emperor, then I think of his brothers then I realize they are really their fathers’ sons. I feel sad that it took LJY losing everything for now to attain some major character development but I guess that’s how the a hero story goes.
LHM is probably closer to how actual ancient emperor were like tbh and without LHY, he probably could’ve become emperor. How capable he is as an emperor and in politics really is irrelevant to his moral character, just like how we will never know, those praised emperors in history books, how they were really like in private. After all, even someone like Le Cheng Emperor was able to become emperor. But for LJY, isn’t that how those revenge cnovel mcs work? They suffer a huge loss, learn from their mistakes, and get a second chance?
In a way, she’s partly an embodiment of the phrase ‘to not shed a tear until one sees the coffin’ (不见棺材不落泪). I always feel this line is an observation on human behavior and how some people can’t change until something really impactful happens to them.
With Rui Wangfei’s brain, she could have been BFF with Yi Jia and Wanwan…

I really hope LHY has a nice, gruesome death planned for LHM. If Male Yandere Leads have any use, it’s to deal out some schadenfreude to ****wads like him. What an absolute asshole. He’s the biggest sanctimonious hypocrite out of all sanctimonious hypocrites. I still feel bad for Luo Jingying though, even knowing she gets a redemption arc. I also can’t… really blame Rui Wangfei, but I also like her less now. Still think she’s wasted on LHM tho, but maybe I’m not rooting for her to escape the carnage as much, when ML handles Rui Wangfei.

I can understand Rui Wangfei tho, to her no one else’s life is more important to her than her own daughters. For a mother, between a stranger you don’t like that much vs your own children, they’ll always choose in a way that’ll benefit their own children. She values her own life not because she wants to live, but because she’s scared of what will happen to her daughters if she dies, so she can’t go against LHM. It’s like if you’re cornered with no other options and you need to push someone to their death or risk your children’s lives, how would you choose?
