In the fourth lunar month fragrant(Fang) fragrance(Fei) fill the human world; the peach blossoms of the mountain temple begin to bloom.
It’s Bai Ju Yi’s poem called ‘The Peach Blossom of Dalin Temple’, tbh only the first line of it applies. It pretty much matches exactly the scene where Ruan Fang Fei first appears in the story.

Actually, I don’t know whether to call her stupid for just looking at the face of the princes and base her choice on that, or praise her for not being just a power-hungry shrew like her mother for instance (and yeah ik the other prince is also a powerful figure but for now it looks like the other one has better prospectives due to his birth, so within her desire to climb up she is still placing more importance in the outer appearance).
Although I dislike her and find her vain, it’s actually quite sad that these young ladies can only look forward to their marriage candidates based only on their face, family, power, money, and rumours, without really knowing how the other one’s personality and behaviour really is like. Like a couple of chapters ago, LHM’s wife and concubines who might have thought they were marrying a gentle, kind and powerful prince but his attitude turned out to be completely cold and uncaring.
Which made me realize, isn’t LHM Rui Wang? Then there is already a Rui Wangfei right? How are you gonna become his Wangfei if he already has one? killing her? how? not mentioning you are a di daughter of a shu branch which more or less equals to being a shu daughter of a di branch… who would want a shu daughter to become their Empress?! sorry but you’re not the MC here so forget it already tch really makes one wonder how people can be so delusional…

Well it’s arranged political marriage essentially. Nobility in ancient times around the world pretty much all married for political reason. Even now there are still political marriages or people marrying for benefits sake.
I think with her being narrow-minded and unable to see the bigger picture makes her more ‘optimistic’. It’s kinda ironic how she wants to go in as a concubine and overthrow Rui Wangfei, especially when her mother is an unfavored di wife………LJY has a development arc in this novel but it’s like around chapter 300ish lmaooooo.
